NYU vs UC Davis?

So I've narrowed down my List of potential colleges to NYU and UC Davis. I was accepted into the college of arts and sciences at uc Davis and the Liberal Studies Program at nyu(which I directly applied to bc of small class sizes--this year was the first yr we could directly apply to lsp), which will eventually lead to my guaranteed transfer to CAS for the last two years.

I want to major in economics w a minor in philosophy. I am also planning to attend grad school.. My dream school being the university of Chicago.

Both schools surprisingly cost the same as the UCs raised their tuition and board--being over $30,000 and nyu gave me about $16,000 in scholarships and $4000 in work study.

I'm very drawn to nyu bc of its location and prestige plus I'll have unlimited opportunities to travel abroad. However, I love Davis bc it's close to home. Nyu undoubtably has a better Econ program and can hopefully get me Ito some grad schools I'd love to attend.
I have to make my decision in less than 48 hours.. So help me. Nyu or uc Davis?

Thanks! (:

If you want to minor in philosophy, NYU is the place to be – we’re the #1 school in the world for philosophy, just above Oxford, Rutgers and Princeton.

Who’s paying the $30,000+ tuition?

I had to pick between Davis and another, farther away school and I decided to go with the other school. Davis was more a comfortable choice by being closer but I decided I wanted to “broaden my horizons” by pushing myself more at the other school and experiencing a new place. Like you, my other school is in a big city (Chicago) and I knew I would have so many more things to do there than in Davis. Unlike NYU, UChicago is in a suburb so it’s not as intense but it offers a much diferrent environment than Davis. I know that I am ready for a big change and maybe you are too. Good luck with your decision!

@nyu2013, yeah I’ve heard great things about nyu’s Econ and philosophy programs(: also, my parents have agreed to pay $25,000 a year (which I’m very grateful for)-- which is comfortable for them. I have to get loans for the rest or get some outside scholarships.

I would definitely recommend NYU if you want to do econ and philosophy.

For the same price, go to NYU. If you’ve grownup near Davis it’s time to spread your wings. NYU will offer more opportunities, few outside of CA have heard of Davis.
