Hi. So recently I've narrowed down my college choices to New York University and UC Santa Barbara. I plan on majoring in history and eventually applying for top law schools. On one hand, I love the UCSB campus and the overall atmosphere. It also helps that its cheaper although money is not a major factor in my decision! But on the other hand, I know NYU is ranked higher and has a stronger liberal arts program. I've heard that law schools do care about the prestige of the undergrad school to a certain extent but all of that has been rumors and nothing more. So considering these factors, which school should I attend? Thanks!

Go with the cheaper one.

NYU is very renowned for its prelaw and liberal arts, for what it’s worth. However, both UCSB are NYU are respected universities. I think you should go where you’d prefer and where you could see yourself.

Law school admissions is mostly about numbers – LSAT and GPA.

Of course, law school is expensive, so avoiding debt and saving money for law school helps.

Note that some of the LSAT questions require logical thinking (see the sample LSATs). Taking some courses such as math with proofs or philosophy logic may be helpful in preparation (math and philosophy majors tend to do better than other majors on the LSAT).
