I was recently admitted to both of these schools, however, I'm at a loss which school to attend. I'm from San Francisco, but distance isn't a factor. I love the city, but I also love the beach.

How much of a factor is money? I would assume that UCSB would be significantly less expensive, no?

I know three kids who started out at NYU - and left. For one, it’s very expensive and in a very expensive city. These kids were tired of feeling broke all the time. And unless you have money, and can get away quite often, the city can feel crushing and overwhelming. Two, the school lacks a traditional campus feeling, one of the kids who left NYU said she envied her friends at the state u who had lawns and quads and places to get away between classes. NYU is a great school - but a lot of observers feel it’s not ideally suited to the undergrad experience.

hm, well NYU is located NYC. location would be the most important factor for me. like, i really don’t like big cities, so even though NYU is more prestigious, i’d never want to go there. and yeah, like the above person said, NYU is in general pretty expensive and people will probably spend more time in the city than on campus. of course, you might like that, but i don’t. you can have the rest of your life to live in the city, why have your college career be that too? i don’t know.

here’s an example of how much i wouldn’t want to live in NYC: i would 100% rather go to cornell than columbia even though columbia is more prestigious, ranked higher, etc etc.
