I'm considering applying to both NYU and UMiami, but I'm not sure which university would be better for me. I'm from Florida, so I would have less financial issues if I go to UMiami, because I'm recieving a Florida scholarship for any Florida university. However, NYU seems like a great school in a diverse city, where I'll be able to find many opportunities. The only thing is that I'll be far away from home, and I might have to get a student loan. Also, I've never been to NYC before, and I'm a little bit concerned about the safety around campus. I want to study Journalism. Any opinions?

I go to UMiami, and I’m applying to transfer to NYU. I completely hate the beer and football environment here, and the lack of an academic challenge. The party scene in Miami is huge, and it tends to attract people who in the vast majority are only interested in getting wasted every weekend.

But that’s just me, there’s hundreds of other freshmen who love it here, so it kinda depends on what you like. For me, living in Dubai my whole life, in a very urban environment, I did not like Coral Gables at first and I still don’t. New York is a city that I feel would suit me a lot more.

You also have to consider costs. NYU has a bad reputation for aid, and if that’s a huge concern for you, it might be something to consider.

Why not just apply to both, and then see how much aid you get? Since the deadline has already passed, I’m assuming you’re a class of 2016 applicant. You have a lot of time to consider

NYU would be great for journalism, many pportunities and internships in city. However it is a very different environment from Miami. My suggestion is to apply to both, see what kind of FA you get, then decide from there. If NYU offers enough for you, then I would definitely visit the campus. NYU is not for everyone and it can be a culture shock if you have not ever visited NYC. bTW, my daughter attends there and loves it.

I am a florida resident. I was sure I was going to go to UF but I got accepted to NYU a few days ago and I think I’m going to go. I didn’t realize how happy I would get after getting in and everyone on the fb group is so nice and everyone is eager for fall and to meet everyone. NYU would be great for journalism. Visit NYC, schedule a campus tour. I pretty much think you’ll like it, like i did. good luck. :)
