NYU vs. USC

ok so Ive narrowed it down to these 2 schools this is where my decision gets really tough because I know this is a debate alot of kids have USC or NYU?

i love NYC the village is sickk...but at the same time im from jersey and ive ALWAYYSS wanted to go to school in california

im a poli sci major so i dont think my major will factor in too much with my decision

$$$- at NYU id have to take out about $22 k in loans at USC about $14 k so USC is a little less

i was accepted spring semester at USC..but i have some connections with USC so i might be able to get bumped up

i need some help with my decision..so what do you guys think? anything is helpful!!

I think this really comes down to where you want to be. I also was debating between NYU and USC and I chose NYU because USC gave me a dismal fin. aid package. I know if I was in your position I would have gone to USC because they gave you more money and like you said you’ve ALWAYS wanted to go to school in California. To me it sounds like your dream school is USC and NYU just feels right. Sometimes you just have to take a chance and if you don’t like Cali the great thing is USC is a great school and you could easily transfer back east.

Haha I am in the exact same boat, I am deciding between USC and NYU, and its all down to financial aid. I got a terrible aid package to USC and a pretty nice one for NYU… I am appealing my financial aid package for USC, and if it works out I will go there since USC is my first choice. But if not, its NYU for me.

But in your case, I would probably pick NYU since you are a USC spring admit, unless you can bump it up to the fall. Also consider the environments of both schools: do you want to go to college in the city and experience crazy, exciting city life over typical college life? or do you want to have a traditional college experience with fraternities, college football, a campus with quads, etc?

Both schools are traditional dream schools in this country (I would say the two most prominent, but thats just me) but they are polar opposites of each other. So it really comes down to environment and cost (as both schools are very expensive).

try community college and then transfer. saves a year or two of money, that is if you do well enough in community college to transfer out.

If you accept the Spring admit you could get a full-time job between HS graduation and spring term, and save up lots of money. You might even save up the entire 14K needed, and then have no debt upon graduation. Something to think about…You’ll love California, and if that’s where you’ve always wanted to be, go for it. There’s always grad school.
