NYU VS. UW

I'm currently interested in the two. Im just wondering which is an overall better school. I know nyu doesn't have a campus, but it has NYC. Also for udub, I love how it's near Seattle. So I don't know. Ps. I'm only a freshman in high school, so I don't know all my sat scores and stuff yet

better school for what? for whom? they are so radically different that without knowing a whole lot more about you we cannot help.

a better question: can your family afford to send you to either school? have you run the net price calculators with some estimated GPA and SAT scores? Talk to your parents and ask them to provide you with a figure that they might be able to contribute each year for 4 years. They might not be ready to do that yet, so understand that you’re ahead of the curve with your question.

in the interim, keep taking challenging courses and getting good grades. try to work out leadership positions that demonstrate your initiative and passion. Talk to your guidance counselor now even if he or she won’t be setting up a college appointment with you for another year.

As an overall experience, I think UDub will appeal to more students than NYU. It has a stronger sense of community and a more well defined campus. But some students really like the energy of NYC and do not care much for the concept of campus living. To such students, NYU is a better option. Which one suits you better?

From an academic point of view, NYU trumps UDub in Business, in several Humanities and Social Sciences (Econ, English, Philosophy and Political Science in particular) and in the performing arts. On the other hand, UDub trumps NYU in the STEM fields. Again, which one suits you better?

Both would be very expensive, so run the net price calculators and bring the results to your parents to start a conversation about college costs and how much they’ll be able to pay.
