Can anyone tell me about the NYU Wagner - MPA (Health Policy & Management)? Particularly for graduates? I am planning to apply there this year and I need to consider whether I want to move there or not since NYC is really expensive. I am attracted to their program because its unique especially with their capstone project. How is their employment statistics? Professors, etc.

It’s unlikely that you’ll find someone who goes there here - it could happen, but this forum is much better for general questions about grad school admissions and decisions.

However, I will say that Wagner’s MPA in HPM is one of the most highly regarded ones. What are your choices?

My choices as in schools? I will most likely apply to BU, Cornell, UCLA, USC, Univ of Minnesota, Columbia, JHS (maybe), Univ of Michigan, and NYU Wagner.

I do not know about the health policy management, however their MPA program is very good from everything I have seen. It is very management focused, and a lot of those in the program have a lot of work experience (the data is old, but the in 2009 the incoming class’s average age was 30). You have a lot of choices in the classes you can take, and really seem to be able to cater the degree to your liking. The Capstone project seems quite interesting as well. Wagner ranks really well, although keep in mind that the US News Ranking for public affairs should be taken with a grain of salt. However, the program is a bit on the big side (400+ per year), so you may have larger classes. Although honestly, if you want better information on these program’s, I would suggest you go into the Government Affairs section in gradcafe forum’s. They really now their things there.

In terms of you choices, def. apply to Columbia (SIPA I assume), UMich Ford, Wagner and JHU Sais. I would also consider looking into Tuft Fletcher, Harvard Kennedy, Princeton WWS and Georgetown Public Policy Institute or GT SFS.

Thanks for the feedback!

I am actually interested in the Healthcare field so I am planning to apply to the SPHs not Public Affairs schools. NYU is the only school that crosses the boundary of the traditional public health schools and public affairs school. Capstone projects seems really interesting since I do love working with projects

I graduated from UCLA so I wouldn’t mind taking classes with 400+ students (550 was the biggest when I was in UCLA).

I am little bit worried since I do not have any health related work experience since I switched from law to public health field.
