"Does anyone know how the waitlist works? Like if I applied to CAS, im “competing” against other CAS people for any CAS openings? or it works differently? "

I’m curious as well. I got waitlisted at CAS too.
But am I competing against other CAS people? Or just other “Computer Science” majors?

Meiday - I was waitlisted at NYU for biology as well, so I learned my lesson about not expecting any sort of admission. LOL (seems like a lot of people got waitlisted for this major)

The waitlist works with the types of students declining admission. Say CAS student leaves, then they need another CAS student. Thats supposedly what happens, after calling them

^ So how do they determine the order of the waitlist?
Like how high/low you are on the waitlist?
Is it by when you joined the waitlist?
Or is it by like SAT scores?

so about this additional letter you can send out to NYU…
should i just send it to the office of undergraduate admissions?
also, is it possible that, after reading the letter, i will be accepted at that moment?
or do they wait until may 1st is over.

no they wait until may 1st i think or even after until june 4th
and is anyone sending anything else? i feel like sending more than the letter is overkill. or is it?

@maylix, thank you so much, that made me smile! you def deserve it too! i hope we both get in a take bio together hehe i hope all us bio people get to go! that would actually be SO awesome if we studied together haha

don’t freak out guys, the waitlist process will take time. dont go for the overkill. what can be done has already been done, there’s nothing we can really do. they have our SATs, they have our GPA, they have our ENTIRE application already. if we choose to send anything, it will be added to our folder when its time to pull from the waitlist. there are a LOT of other factors to take into account, its not just good grades and scores, bc we all have that. thats why we were waitlisted in the first place haha. its about what we bring to the table as individuals. they look for “replacements” for those who choose to not attend. anyway, good luck to all of us! we’re all in this together!

After a month of racing to the mailbox to check for a letter/package in the mailbox, we finally got our decision.
Waitlisted from CAS - Pre-Med.
She was extremely disappointed, because NYU is her # 1 choice.
Anybody know if sending anything additional would help her chances on the waitlist? Short of flying to New York that is!!

I got waitlisted to Steinhardt. I like how everyone got waitlisted at the same time…I bet they will admit a ton of people off the waitlist bc a lot of the people accepted will probably not go due to the fact that NYU is so expensive. Even if I get accepted off the waitlist I wont be able to go bc its so expensive :(
