NYU Waitlist Thread Class of 2020

DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A STERN ADMITTED STUDENT WHO DECIDED TO COMMIT TO ANOTHER COLLEGE???

@terr24lr yeah i have two friends who got accepted but not attending. However, nyu stern predicts the # of students that won’t come, anyway.

stern waitlist here as well

Guys I still havent submitted my waitlist form of interest, does giving it late affect if I get in or not?

@Liveitlight I don’t think so. As long as you submitted before May 1st, you’ll be fine.

Does anyone know when decisions usually start coming out?

@Bluebrry do you think Stern waitlist candidates have a good shot at acceptance? (with a strong waitlist letter of interest and everything)

someone on the FB posted saying they got in from the waitlist like 30 mins ago @scholar861

@SP2617 I SAW THAT TOO! It seems to early to release decisions though.

@scholar861 @SP2617 I don’t think anyone would have gotten off the waitlist yet considering they said that they cannot reconsider our applications until after may first.

@kenzielouwho That’s what I thought too, but on the NYU Class of 2020 Facebook Group, someone said that he/she got off the waitlist.

I guess that’s a good thing, as it means the commitments are coming in too sluggishly. Means more spot for waitlist kids

@terr24lr Not sure, but then seeing few people getting in with waitlist, we can guess that they don’t have too many comittments made for them. But NYU Stern has ED1 and ED2, so it would be best not to count on it too much. hope the best for you

@terr24lr They only have about 600 spots per class, but admit around 1200+ because a lot of people won’t attend due to financial aid, so even if 600 people decide not to attend, there’s still no room for a waitlisted student. Good luck though.

@adreamer22 i don’t understand what you’re saying. can you reexplain?

I know four kids in my school who got into NYU but they are not going. Three and Stern and one is CAS. They applied “just cause” and are moving on to different schools.

@Sassygogo When Stern admits students, they already have a fairly accurate estimation on how many will not commit to the school, so even though they have 600 spots, they always accept much more than that. To get a spot from the waitlist, there has to be way more than estimated to decide not to attend.

Does anybody have an idea of how many people are waitlisted for Tisch Drama (all Acting studios)?

@adreamer22 Wouldn’t it be to their advantage to have a willing student attend their school and pay the tuition they are asking though? (ex. myself) I understand not all admits will attend however don’t they want as many attending students or is there such thing as a “cut off” for example, 600 is sufficient and we don’t need 610 (10 hypothetically from the waitlist)

@terr24lr Stern always tries to aim for around 600 per class, so I guess you could call it a “cutoff” though it usually is a few more, like 610. You should also keep in mind that NYU is a non-profit institution so they prioritize quality of applicants over willingness to pay for the most part. Still, there wouldn’t be a waitlist if no one got accepted from it, so good luck! Sorry if this discouraged you – you wouldn’t have been waitlisted if you weren’t qualified, so you still have a great shot.
