I’m feeling a little hopeless lately in terms of college admissions. I’m a junior in high school. My GPA is horrid. I have a 3.2 unweighted GPA and a 4.2 weighted GPA. I am currently in the IB program so since actual ib (not pre-ib) classes started this year hopefully my weighted GPA will increase. I also plan to do Dual-Enrollment during the summer to raise my GPA. I really want to get into NYU but the chances are low. Do they look at your weighted or unweighted GPA? Being in IB seems like a waste since all my attention is directed towards my classes and now I have to cram for the SATs and the courses are rigorous so my GPA isn’t as high as an average students is.I’m also looking into SAT/ACT tutoring. There are plenty of people in the regular program at my school with 3.7 GPA’s and it feels like all this hard work is for nothing if they have a better chance at getting in then I do. I honestly don’t even know if I should apply if I don’t meet the criteria.Every year the acceptance rate lowers and the competition to get in increases.
@Nikkgrint17 I just read a thread on CC where someone got in with a 3.3 gpa. My daughter’s HS only did weighted GPA’s and she had a small number of AP classes but several dual enrollment classes. I would say apply anyway because NYU looks at you holistically and not just your gpa and scores. Good luck to you.
