i need a hook to get into nyu, any ideas?

find a cure for cancer

yea, we could go on and on with the unrealistic versions, however im actually looking for somthing that will stand out

So far, i have 200+ hours of service

-volunteered at a summer camp
as part of the camp personal.

assistant religion school teacher
(1st grade)

YMCA volunteer and ect.

you should find something in academics..not only volunteering...
because volunteering is what others can do if they get opportunity.
however, if u do something that no one else has done or would not have done, that could become your hook

You don't need a hook to get in to NYU (or most colleges, for that matter - a "hook" is something that by definition very few people have, and its used far too generally here), just high SAT scores and academics with decent ECs.

what if the sat's are on the low side?

bumpeerrrrrrrrrr

I have to agree with ohnoes. 'Hooks' are mostly for the highly elite schools (Ivys, Stanford, MIT, etc.) because it can't be decided by test scores and GPAs alone. NYU is not a bad school, but it's not THAT selective. You should compare your SAT scores to their mid 50%. If it is low to that, you should do your best and set NYU as a reach school but have some safeties and matches to fall back on.

for nyu, what would be a good EC to get their attention. (in addition to all the other Ec's i have)

nyu is really big on volunteer work/community service. playing that ticket might get you the hook you need.
