Nyu

Does anyone know what NYU considers an acceptable GPA for a transfer? (CAS) On the website it says that most students have better than a "B." It also says that there is no cut-off GPA. (Not really a big help.)

What would be a good GPA considering that everything else (essay, resume, etc.) is good?

Where are you transfering from? This is just a guess, but I bet they reject hundreds of CC applicants each year with 3.5ish GPAs but in the past have taken 2.8s from places like Swat or Cal where grading is brutal.

Total stab in the dark guess for good chance (assuming rest of app is ok):
3.8+ >>> community college
3.5+ >>> seriously ttt 4 year schools no one has heard of
3.3+ >>> medicore t75 schools
2.6+ >>> t25
virtually anything >>>> HYPSM

Thanks DM3!

I go to Adelphi Univ. (Not many people have heard of it)

I had a 3.3 in the fall of frosh year and a 3.7 in the spring. And, I know I can keep at least a 3.5 this fall...

NYU will accept students with a rigorous curriculum, really good SAT score, and at least an A- GPA. NYU is a competitive school, make no mistake about it. Which means you'd better have a 3.7+ go get into NYU. I know someone who had a 3.97 GPA and a 1400+ old SAT score and she got rejected from NYU (got accepted to Cornell though). She did go to a community college though which may have affected their decision.

eternity, did she try and transfer into CAS? stern and tisch are much harder.

If you keep the cumulative gpa over 3.5, assuming the rest of your application is solid, you will probably have a good shot. Try and get to know a teacher well so he/she will write you a really nice LOR. Also, are you planning on transfering in the fall or spring? They accept around the same number of people each spring however much less people apply. The fall acceptance rate is around 20%. Maybe I will see you there =)

she applied to CALS and got in.

Thanks again! One of my comm. professors graduated from NYU, so I guess thats a plus. I'll make sure I do super-good in that class. lol

I got accepted to NYU from community college with a 3.8 and very few extracurriculars.

how'd you do on the SATs?

which college?

College of the Canyons in southern CA. I got a 1380 on my SATs. I have been employed since my 15th bday too, although I dont know how much that counts.

I ended up not going because the financial aid sucked. Im at Berkeley now.

****, you got into berkely with a 3.8? You're in-state, right?

"2.8s from places like Swat or Cal where grading is brutal. "

Cal is easy. I don't know where you heard that it was even remotely difficult.

I assume your talking about Berkeley. In that case, it all depends. For engineering and other sciences (biochem., chem., biology), Berkeley is very challenging.

Every school is hard at the engineering and sciences. Berkeley is nowhere near as tough as Swarthmore or Stern

Yes, I got into Berkeley and NYU with a 3.8. Keeping in mind of course that thats community college, not high school, so I cant get more than a 4.0. I thought my grades were pretty good.

I think Stern would be the coolest place to study undergraduate business.

It is. It is well worth it.

easymack, did you transfer from a cali community college? please tell me you didn't =)
