Hi! I’m planning to apply at NYUAD in ED1 for class of 2024. Can someone tell me what exactly is the university looking for in the applications and things I should be careful about? Thanks
Please comment guys!!!
Hi, I’m an Irish guy living in Abu Dhabi and I’ve different question to ask as I’ve yet to see this being asked but it’s been killing me for ages now.
My question is, does age matter? Let me explain, I’m still in my early 20s so this isn’t an extreme case but due to family reasons and other factors I didn’t have the opportunity to start a bachelors degree straight out of school. I graduated secondary school in Ireland than moved to the UAE with my family which is an opportunity I took as I’m a made traveler (I’ve an endless list of stories about trips I’ve taken!), I essentially had to help out at home with little sisters as my family had a stressful time starting up in a new job in a university in Abu Dhabi. However, things are now settled and after doing lots of research I’ve now planned where I want to study and because I’d be friending NYUAD students and hanging out with them I literally know the campus like the back of my hand and know that I want to go here. My Academics,EC,LOR,Essay’s are pretty good, maybe better as I’m quite self critical I must say! So based on all that I feel I’ve a good chance and from living here I know that I can adapt to the environment (but that’s up to the admission staff to decide). In the end I worry if my age could be a negative factor.
I must say though that I did email them a few months ago and they did reply saying that the decision is holistic and not based on different factors including age, but did follow saying that the majority of successful applicants were students who were traditional. In the end they didn’t discourage me from applying and gave me dates for ED1,ED2,RD etc so this leads me to believe that I could be overreacting but I don’t know. Another factor for why I’m nervous is other UAE uni’s have rules that you must apply 2 years after graduation so I worry that god might carry over to NYUAD but the fact that it’s attached to NYU makes me think that it won’t be done like that.
Thanks for reading my rant!
Hi Rockcommer, i’m from Indonesia also applying for ED1 for class of 2024 at NYUAD, i think what you should be careful is the essay part, because i think essay is one of the most critical part for them to consider you for admission. Where are you from btw?.
Sheehal I personally feel that you should apply. There is no harm in that
Hi canoy! thanks
I am from India
Hey sheehal
personally, I think you dont have to worry about that since the education system is different in USA universities. For me I took 2 gap years too so you are not the only one who did not follow the traditional system.
you just have to justify why you took gap years in the common app that is. Just Try and I hope the best for all of us this year!!!
Hey Guys,
I am planning to apply on ED1. And my councelor want to nominate me but the NYUAD’s nomination form website is now inactive.
Do you guys know when it will be active for nomination?
Tnx
Hey kalu19! I visited NYUAD on May and the AO that met me said that they were thinking about eliminating the nomination bc it didn’t really do anything for them… They probably did that! i’m not sure, you should email them… I’m working on my essay for the nomination just in case, but I’ll probably email them too
Hey guys!
I am an international student from Pakistan applying to NYUAD in ED1. I would like to have some advice on whether my profile is strong enough and what I can do to further improve it.
It goes like:
ACADEMICS:
O-Levels: 6A* and 2A
AS: 2A and 1B
Predicted A2 (combined A-Level grades from my counselor): 1A* and 2A
Didn’t take or will take the SAT or any other standardized test
ECs: (a few…)
-Launched an app, Esos. Esos allows users to file complaints and take action about deforestation, water and civic utility problems. At the Play Store in late Sept.
-Founded a non-profit charity, Impact Pakistan. Arrange massive plantations and awareness campaigns. 1200+ trees and USD1350 donation collected in two months, with media coverage.
-took part in international Environmental Science competitions. Didn’t win though.
-Varsity table tennis team captain and the school’s official referee and coach.
- Content writer on a reputable online blog, (ranked #6th overall on the platform) and published research articles in newspapers, along with some political and event-related journalism.
My Recommendation letter is from my English teacher who knows me extremely well and for the past 5 years, and also happens to be my mother’s colleague.
The NYU supplement is certainly good although I am still working to improve the Common App essay.
CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME IF I HAVE ANY SHOT AT NYUAD???
Also, please share your profiles in a similar fashion, so we can help each other in improving parts of our application.
Hi lasershark, you do have shot to NYUAD. I think your activities are excellent. Also, don’t forget about NYUAD holistic admission policy. So don’t forget, do take time on your personal essay and why NYU essay. Just be you in your own voice. I wish the best for all of us applied this year!
Hey guys,
I have chosen to submit my A-level grades as the Standardized testing requirements.
My counselor has emailed it to the college but my portal shows that my Standardized test score is awaiting. Does anyone know what is happening? I have emailed them and haven’t heard back. It’s already Nov 4 …
hey einstien,
My transcripts are still marked “awaiting” too, even if they were sent 2 days before the Deadline. Is this normal? Do you guys have the same problem?
@NyuadReject28 I am worried about it too.
Hope they are yet to update …
@NyuadReject28 where are you from ?
I am from Rjectionland, the land where dreams go to die, where acceptance rates converge to zero and avrg SATs are asymptotic to 1600. jk Morocco. You?
I am from the Asian land, where all questions in the SAT should be of Maths to get a thick 1600. Not kidding. Nepal. Any updates on the portal @NyuadReject28 ?
Hi. I applied ED1, my teachers and counselors wanted me to apply to MIT but I always had this notion that my portfolio was not good enough. So I thought why not apply NYUAD. I still think my chances are slim but let’s see what this community thinks. It’s always fun and insightful to look at other people’s stats so here are mine:
5As 2As 2Bs Olevels
4As AS levels in Maths, Chem, Physics, CS.
On track with predicted grade of A in further maths A2, with A*s in the rest.
A Levels High Expectation of 5A*s
Expected score of 800 on both math and physics but I am not sending those because the decision will be made before score release.

This is just a sneak peak. I had to 600 words additional info to describe my other activities.
I have strong recommendations from my counselor, physics and mathematics teachers.
Please tell me if these stats are good enough for NYUAD. I really wanna be there to be at forefront with change makers. Rejection and fall back has always fueled me. On realistic grounds, what’s this application like.
hi, it updated 4 days ago. I also got a reply from the school saying that the applicants’ portal is laggy and usually takes time to reflect the process in time. Sorry for my late reply :).
You definitely should’ve applied to MIT. I think you’ll get to at least CW. Hope I’ll meet you there (:
