So, my mom lended me her credit card today just to go to a restaurant, and I came home...AND IT WAS GONE! I did not take it out of my pocket, and I am absolutely freaking panicking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She will have my head in a poopoo platter if she knows about tha.t I am really responsible usually too which is the worst part. What do i do? Call the restaurant?

call them. if they dont have it tell your mom, get it canceled, and double check with the credit card company that no unauthorized purchases were made. most companies will not charge you for those purchases.

Call the restaurant, tell your mom, and take a deep breath. Lost credit cards happen all the time, and usually everything gets cleared up painlessly within a few days without any money lost.

Just act fast and stay calm. Within a week, you won't even remember this happened. Good luck!

The company does make the charges effective unless the credit card had a theft insurance policy ( its usually a really low monthly fee thats added to your balance).

^^Not true. By law, you are responsible only for the first $50 of unauthorized charges if you report the loss or theft in a timely manner. Many credit card issuers nowadays won't even charge you the $50 but will eliminate all the unauthorized charges.

The catch is the "reporting promptly" piece. Call the restaurant. If they don't have it, call the company and report it lost or stolen. If you think you might find it, the company can put a freeze on the card so it can't be used, but without cancelling it. If you find it, you call them and remove the freeze. Otherwise, cancel it and they'll send out new cards with new account numbers.
