OA and CA

Has anyone had any experience in these programs and if so which particular activity? I'm not really sure they're really all they're hyped up to be. However, they sound really interesting, and I'd love to hear from people who've done them before.

sorry i’m an entering freshman so i cant really talk about the experience, but from what I hear, lots of people did OA and loved it O_O. they made it sound reallly fun too, but I think I’ll be more comfortable and happy with CA. so yeahh that didnt help much.

OA was really fun! I’m an Eagle Scout so I was pretty accustomed to the type of camping we were doing, but pretty much everyone in my OA group had never even been camping before, never mind backpacking. The leaders are very well trained and they’ll make sure you know everything you need to know. Make sure you pick your level carefully, though: some of the “strenuous” trips are very difficult, and filled up pretty much with athletes who can handle it. I had a trip somewhere in the middle, and it was still pretty difficult.

But overall I would recommend you do some sort of OA or CA, because it’s great to enter Princeton with a small group of people you already know. I really bonded with some people in my OA group…one of the girls in it is my best friend. Do it!

Im doing OA. even if they’re over-hyped you should do it anyway. new experiences and new friends right?

@JTC can you tell me what your fitness level was at the time? i marked “very strenuous” and i am in shape and athletic but now i’m worried i’ll be put with olympians :p

I wouldn’t have described myself as “athletic” at the time. Maybe “in shape”, but not “athletic”. I’m sure you’ll be fine…I was kind of exaggerating, as in fact I think some of the athletes (at least fall-term ones) have like training camp or something.

Does anyone know when we are notified about OA/CA?

Do OA. OA offers different levels of difficulty so pretty much everyone can participate.

OA was by far the best bonding experience for me at Princeton. I’m still friends with everyone from my OA group and it was the best way to get to meet your fellow classmates.

Also- after sleeping under a tarp for a week, you’ll appreciate your dorm room so much more.
