Oakes?!

I'm trying to decide on what college to choose for next year and I've been leaning towards Oakes.
I was wondering what people know about it in general and also if anyone could answer some specific questions I have about it.
I know it is suppose to be the multi-cultural dorm, but will someone who is white feel unwelcome?
Also, is Oakes isolating from the rest of UCSC?
And is it suppose to be fun? I know some colleges are more known for partying. I'm not like crazy but I do like to party a good deal and smoke.
Thanks!

I heard that oakes isreally isolated from the rest of the campus and know someone who's not really happy there because he says that it's really cliquish among races within oakes

You sound more like a match for Kresge.

honestly, i dont think someone who is white will feel unwelcome anywhere. maybe im not aware enough about racial issues though. my ex roommate (im a crownie) who is half black did mention that yeah, black people are just more comfortable with other black people, but that doesn't mean that they won't be open to other people.
Location wise, yeah its not at a very good place.
Everywhere you will find people who party, it really depends..

oakes is ok. It has the "ghetto" stereotype or the "minority college". Its kind of isolated and at the bottom of the hill. You have to walk up pretty far to get to the dining hall because its closer to college 8. My friend at oakes said he cant believe hes paying the same as other kids in other colleges for a dorm but for sub-standard accommodations. :O

There really are a lot of ‘ethnic’ people at Oakes, and it’s super dark at night. I don’t know much else.

If you have questions about Cowell, though, feel free to ask…
