AHHH i got accepted too!!
and i too got an email at 1:27pm today ahahaha
its gonna be funnnnn!

I got the email too! Does the package come in the mail?

Could anyone post an except of the acceptance email. I’ve applied to the Summer Bridge program but got a very vague email.

Could those who got admitted say something about themselves: which school/county you come from, your stats, and why you think you got in? Thanks.

"Dear Student:

Congratulations! You have been selected to participate in the 32nd year of the UC San Diego OASIS Summer Bridge Program. We hope that this letter finds you in good health and with positive expectations for Summer Bridge. We, the staff of OASIS, are looking forward to meeting you and providing an experience that will enhance your efforts to make a successful transition to your university education.

A selection packet which includes a description of our Summer Bridge Program’s activities, as well as important dates, processes and responsibilities for participants should arrive via post mail very soon. Please look out for this in the mail and read this packet very carefully so you will have a clear understanding of the program’s objectives and the procedures that we must all support in order to ensure a positive experience for everyone…"

Oh Gee, I guess only the denial email was vague

The reason the letter of denial from the Summer Bridge Program is vague is that they really do not specify the criteria by which they make the choice. This is not a program you get into (absent available spaces) based on high GPA, high SAT, high APs. In fact, I think the intent of the program is to assist student who primarily (but not exclusively) come from high schools that are in the bottom 40 percent of California high schools based on API (Academic Performance Index).

In any event, the program should be fun for those who are invited to attend. Just wish they could expand participation – and could be honest and transparent on who should apply and their selection criteria.

@torreypines: im from santa clara county. my school is not part of the bottom 40 percentile of CA highschools, i have a weighted 4.1 GPA, i have average very average SAT scores, took a total of 5 APs, personally i think i kicked ass with my 4 essays i wrote. wrote 250 word essays for all 4 prompts. and really explain my case on why i needed to be in the program

there is a waitlist. so theres hope for thoes denied :]

yeah i agree with TNEsaid. My school is #1 in my city and I took 10 AP classes. I think my essays got me in and I’m very grateful for that. :)

^^^You deserve congratulations! I am sure it will be fun. Here is what the OASIS (the Office that conducts the Transitional Programs including the Summer Bridge program say about how students are selected to apply and participate:

[OASIS UCSD](http://oasis.ucsd.edu/otp/atp_details.asp)

"How are students selected to apply and participate?

"Our first priority is to work with students who come from Quintiles 4-5 (bottom two-fifths) of high schools in California. These are students that come from high schools that produce the least amount of UC eligible students. Other criteria for selection include first-generation college status, low-income status, GPA, SAT scores, and Entry Level Writing Requirement/Subject A scores. Additionally, your application will include essays that are considered in the criteria for selection. Other students are welcome to apply, but Quintile 4-5 students will be given first priority. Unfortunately, due to limited resources, we are not able to extend an invitation to every entering first year student that would like to apply. "

So, this is directly from OASIS. Another UCSD Regents Scholar called up the OASIS Office and was told a lot of applicants were invited to apply. He was not invited but told he could apply. He did. he too wrote “kick-ass” essays and was not finally invited to attend. The answer lies in the declaration above.

Still congrats. Enjoy!
