SJChessmom, do you know if there is a bus going to the rally from campus? My son would love to go but doesn’t know how he would get there.

I WOULD hope so …every other college campus Democratic club supports these events, but could not find anything about this event in today’s ND Observer.
Very disappointed here, about the ND atmosphere!

Sorry wish I could give you more info. Your S would need a ticket for the event.

FYI; According to local radio stations and TV stations the available tickets were gone yesterday morning sometime for this event, so jusy to let you know if you make a trip out to Washington High School without a ticket it may be a waisted trip unless you want to take a chance and see if someone standing in line has an extra ticket.

Thanks Martyh for the update- Do you know if the ND students are advertising or supporting this event in any way for the students?
Just curious!
There is a democratic club at ND- right ?

Thanks for the responses. My son believes that the ND College Democratic club has thrown their support to Clinton, so has little interest in Obama…

I didn’t ever hear about it on campus. The only reason I was able to get tickets was because one of my friends was already going to pick them up.

I was close to South Bend this weekend and went over to ND when I heard Ethel Kennedy and her son Max would be there to endorse Obama. The event was not well attended. However, there were some ND students that had joined the Obama campaign and I believe the event was sponsored by the ND Democrats.

Geesh, is ND the only campus not embracing Obama- Muhlenberg, where my D is packed the hall where he spoke, D waited in line for long while to get ticket and get good seats.
Penn State- 20,000 stood in Quad to listen to Obama.
Univ of Montana- Missoula- 6,000 (almost primarily white) packed the stadium, and ND barely knows he is speaking.

Interesting!

Danbrenn, would your report back to us how it goes tonight?
I am particularly interested.

Do you think because it was held in South Bend and not on campus that it was not well promoted ?

Will be interested to know if many ND students attend tonight.

I think more students would have attended if they knew about it, and maybe they would have created such a demand that the venue would have been changed to accomodate a larger crowd. Perhaps this is the fault of the Obama campaign, not getting the word out. However, as of last evening there was nothing about the rally on the ND college dems site.

Chaz4- thanks for update. Perhaps Obama added
it on at the VERY last minute.

I notice he is going where Bill Clinton has been
ie Bill Clinton spoke at Muhlenberg and within two weeks, Obama added Muhlenberg to the schedule.

I am certain it was mentioned on Saturday.

Here is an update - Bill Clinton returning to South Bend- his second visit.

Democratic Presidential hopeful Barack Obama begins his bus tour of Indiana Wednesday night in South Bend. Bill Clinton will return Thursday.

Sen. Obama’s first stop is a town hall meeting at 10 p.m. at Washington High School.

Thursday his bus will head to Gary for another town hall meeting at 11 a.m. then it will go to Jefferson High School in Lafayette at 6 p.m.

anyone want to watch obama speech live from Washington high school South Bend?

Notre Dame is different, maybe we don’t treat Obama like a god.

This lack of publicity is on his campaign. If they did their research and realized that Domers favor him over McCain and Hillary they would have done something to pander to us.

The College Democrats of Notre Dame, because it is affiliated with a national group affiliated with the actual Democratic Party do not officially endorse a candidate until the primaries are over. They should still be able to sponsor events and bring awareness to speakers but they do not favor one candidate over one other in theory (perhaps different in practice)

And to bpayne1, if they realized that Notre Dame favor him over McCain and Hillary, then why would he need to come here? To further convince those who support him? He should be going to the places where more people are undecided or decidedly against him to win the votes that he doesn’t have now.

It does seem strange that Obama would go to South Bend and not try to court the students of Notre Dame, many of whom will be voting in the Indiana primary.

I was one of six volunteers who worked for the Obama campaign during Bill Clinton’s Dyngus Day visit to South Bend. Three of the six at the venue I was at were ND students. They said that ND is not a very politically active school. The current Obama event at Washington HS has been covered extensively in the local media because HRC was denied when she sought to speak at the same venue. (She requested a day when school was in session wheareas Obama is speaking during the school’s spring break.) It has been quite a controversy.
