Oberlin and Kenyon College chances

I will be attending college in the autumn of 2013. I'm really nervous to start applying, especially with regards to my average (3.3 uw) cumulative gpa. However, I have shown and upward trend in grades. I received a 3.1 gpa freshman year, 3.2 sophomore year, and a 3.683 junior year. All of these are unweighted. So far, I have gotten a 27 on the ACT (retaking in September) and I've completed 2 AP classes. I am also doing 2 AP's next year. I am also an Editor of my school's award winning yearbook (one of the top in the nation).

My question is- What do you think my chances are in regards to getting into to Oberlin College and Kenyon College?

PS- I know that these are reach schools for me.

In order to get into either school with those stats you need a compelling hook. Any excellence in sports, music, first in the family to attend college, underrepresented minority, amazing community service? Otherwise pick one and definitely do early decision. Best wishes!

Work on getting the ACT up, and make sure to apply early decision to either of them. ED acceptance rate is more than 20% higher than regular decision acceptance rate at those two.

“PS- I know that these are reach schools for me.”

Then why did you post the thread? You only have one EC? Very low chance at either school with such a low GPA and an ACT below the 25th percentile for both. What are you looking for in a college?

Other Ohio LACs where you have better chances:
[Home - College of Wooster](http://www.wooster.edu/)
[Ohio Wesleyan University](http://www.owu.edu/)
and maybe
[Denison University - Home](http://www.denison.edu/)

but I can definitely recommend some other schools to you if you provide some criteria.

If you like schools like Oberlin and Kenyon, but want to add a few schools that are a bit less selective, take a look at Muhlenberg, Beloit, and Lawrence. And the Common Data Set is your friend for each of these schools. Google it and go to Section C to see the stats of the most recent admitted class.
