I know that the unified app. isn't available until Sept. 1, but will the recorded music accompaniment (jazz specific) for pre-auditions/auditions stay the same for 2008-09 as it was for 2007-09? In other words, if S2 records his tapes in August, will he have to re-do Oberlin's with new music?

I would suggest calling the admissions dept. at Oberlin to ask. Probably it won't change, but it would be too bad to get it wrong!

Definitely worth a call.

Last year was the first time that there was pre-audition for jazz. The other conservatories had very different jazz requirements (none had a "play along") so it is possible that Oberlin will change the pre-audition requirements for this year.

The other thing is that your son's play can improve hugely from August until December, when the Unified is due. You definitely want to highlight how he plays at the most present moment.

Great advice--thanks all. I didn't realize Oberlin's jazz pre-audition was new last year! When he gets back from Eastman jazz camp, I'll have him make a call to Oberlin. He's going to be playing a ton from now until the beginning of school, and hopes to get his audition recordings done in August, capitalizing on the improvements he's making at camp and with concentrated post-camp play --before soccer season, multiple applications, and a tough senior academic Fall commence.

If I haven't said so before, thank you all for your guidance down this whole new road in the last months, and for your future support (in advance). I need to re-read many of my bookmarked threads!!!
