It would be great if we could all share our stats. This could really help prospective students.
Good luck!

[] Job/Work Experience:
Cashier at Goodwill
[] Summer Activities:
I donated large amount of books to Papua New Guinea with my family in summer 2012
[] Essays:
This is horrible, but I honestly can’t remember what I wrote about for the ‘Why Oberlin’! In my Common App essay, I wrote about how visiting Papua New Guinea (where my dad is from) opened me to the idea of international relations and how I strived to do my best each day because I knew all of my PNG family members were counting/depending on me.
[] Teacher Recommendation:
Pretty generic, I had her focus on my academic achievements.
[] Additional Rec:
I had my ‘Uncle’ Elias, an ambassador in the PNG Embassy in D.C. write me one about my passion for PNG/community service. He wrote it on official paper and it definitely helped loads!
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?:
YES
[] Intended Major:
International Relations
[] State (if domestic applicant):
Wisconsin
[] School Type:
Public
[] Ethnicity:
Biracial (Caucasian and Pacific Islander)
[] Gender:
Female
[] Income Bracket:
100-105k
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):
URM
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths:
URM, how ‘diverse’ and globally aware I am, my connections to PNG, my international aspect
[] Weaknesses:
I probably could have wrote a better ‘Why Oberlin’ essay, but I just applied because they sent me on an all-expenses-paid trip to Oberlin for minority students
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
I met the academic criteria, and I am a very culturally diverse person who plans to capitalize on that diversity to create a job for herself
[/ul]General Comments:
Their financial aid was incredible, by far the best I received!
I was awarded a $100,000 scholarship, $75,788 in grant aid, and $9,600 in work study (over the course of 4 years).
I calculated all of this, and figured that, if I lived and ate in a co-op for all 4 years, contributed 8k over 4 years, and had my parents contribute 25k over 4 years, I would graduate with $12,864 in debt. However, my brother will be entering college my senior year, which will lower the price somewhat. My mom also thinks I will be able to contribute 3k a year (12k overall), but I don’t want to overestimate so I just said 8k to be safe.
I’m sincerely sorry if this comes across as braggy, but I am immensely proud of myself, and wanted to share with someone!
