***Oberlin Class of 2023 ED Applicants Discussion***

Whats up guys! I submitted my app a few days ago and I’m so excited and nervous to see results. I just came back from the Multicultural Visit Program a few days ago and I can’t stop thinking about Oberlin! Best of luck to everyone!

Oberlin is a great school. Good luck!

i submitted mine a few days ago as well! oberlin is my absolute dream school and i don’t know how i’ll be able to wait a whole MONTH for my decision. i visited in early october for one of the fly in days and it excited me even more… best of luck!

artlingo i guess we are in the same boat haha
are you applying to the conservatory as well? The biggest thing that draws me to Oberlin is the dual degree program - there’s nothing else like it!

@scrublinux did you apply ED for the college and RD for the conservatory then? Just curious.

My kid has had his dual degree application both at the college and conservatory at least a month at Oberlin but applied RD for both. Oberlin is probably his top choice but because of how competitive the conservatory is and finances, he needed to keep options open. If he does not get into the conservatory, he isn’t likely to choose to attend Oberlin even if he gets into the college. He has good stats/academics for the college and he did visit and interview. Very anxious to hear about pre-screen!

@MusakParent yes I did ED to college and RD to conservatory. My justification is that even if I get denied from the conservatory (my instrument is classical guitar btw), I will be more than happy to attend the college alone. It is still possible to participate in many if not all of the conservatory activities even if you are just a college student. Also, I’ve considered and visited the programs at JHU/Peabody, Eastman/UofR, and a few others, and Oberlin is my favorite because of the connection between the two schools. No other school even comes close in terms of # of double degree students and flexibility between the two schools.

Saint Olaf and Lawrence University are also nice LAC dual options my kid also applied to. Lawrence might even be more seamless than Oberlin. My kid is also applying to Eastman/URochester, CMU, Miami Frost, a couple state options. He is VP and would also like to do a side of composition. He’s undecided on dual degree. Maybe theater or writing. VP is probably harder to do without getting in the conservatory though I do think focusing on a BA in music with comp and vocal lessons could be a good compromise for him.

Anyway - best of luck on the ED round! We’re watching this thread. I have heard Oberlin gets back on Con prescreens around mid-December typically. I guess those apps aren’t technically due until Dec 4.

@scrublinux i didn’t apply to the conservatory, just the LAC!

@artlingo oh, ok that’s cool! By the way did your fly-in program in October happen to be the Multicultural Visit Program?

@scrublinux nah, i was actually in the fly-in from chicago while boston and nyc were also there!

I applied ED to Oberlin as well! Anyone know when we will hear back? I know on the website it says the 15th but some friends of mine have received acceptance letters from colleges before the date the college initially told them.

@bloodorange123 apparently oberlin sometimes sends them out a day or two early! hopefully they do, because i don’t know if i can wait four more days lol

Good luck all! My daughter applied ED two years ago and I remember the stress of waiting. She loves Oberlin! The year she applied we found out on Dec 14, which was a Wednesday at around 5pm. We didn’t get any advance warning so it was a surprise. Also some people found out then (we did) and a few others didn’t hear for another day or so - not sure why. Some of them still got in though so it wasn’t like they sent the accepts first and then the rejections. Think positive thoughts!

Does anyone know if they send letters or emails out?

As I recall they send an email to check your portal and the announcement is on there. My daughter had checked her portal already, before she saw the note, because she was impatiently waiting. A few days later we got a packet with more information about her merit scholarship and a tee shirt. This was two years ago but I assume it’s pretty similar.

@belbito19 I got an email today (and I assume you must have too) that says that decisions are coming out December 14 at 4 PM EST. It also said a physical letter will come later, but only if you are accepted.

Accepted!!!

Congratulations! Must be nice to be one and done!

Accepted as well!

accepted!!!
