Is the name “Brown” in this thread title an accident? Just wondering if it should be edited out. I have a daughter who applied to Oberlin RD – it’s the only school that isn’t on the west coast that she applied to. Such a nice school!

Excitedly waiting to hear back from Oberlin; ds applied rd. Anyone know when decisions come out?

Also - any info on the theater department? I saw a theater department video online that made it seem as though the theater facilities are quite extensive, which hopefully bodes well for performance opportunities and the depth/breadth/rigor of theater department offerings/grad school placement/post-grad employment.

Any other info re current vibe / housing / merit scholarships / dining / classes would be most welcome!

I am happy to try to answer questions. My middle child is at Oberlin now, I have a senior in HS applying to college now as well. Have you checked out the Oberlin instagram? They post often showing performances.

Oh, thank you! How does your middle child like Oberlin?

He loves it! I really do too. The parents are awesome, the town is small but they do find alot to do in it and he goes to Cleveland frequently. We live far away so having an airport 30 min away is nice. He is able to meet with professors often and they have been vey helpful.

@Tealny one of his professors invited him to join his bowling league. And surprisingly my son loves it. It gives him a change to get to know other people in the town.

Looks like decisions will be released on 3/18 — my daughter just got an email update.

My DS applied RD as well. He was recruited (as far as that goes for D3) for the track team and spent a weekend with the team in October. Got to sit in on classes, sleep in the dorm, eat in the dining hall, and train with the team. Had a very good experience. It’s hard to wait this long for decisions, and I can tell he’s getting nervous. He was deferred EA at two schools and the rest are all RD. Oberlin would be a wonderful option.

DD got in with scholarships

Daughter got in, with $21K in scholarships! Which … is probably not enough to make it affordable, but we’ll see. :confounded: It’s her top choice, so for today we’re just celebrating the acceptance.

(Wants to major in theater. 3.7 unweighted, 1380, 8 AP’s, pretty good EC’s including Drama Club pres., did the optional audition/portfolio and interview, definitely showed interest in various ways.)
