Oberlin College Class of 2020 - Regular Decision

Decisions will be out on 1st April.

@zainSD Can I ask what you are basing that on?

I saw these dates listed for Oberlin on another post
Oberlin: (2015: emailed & mailed March 26 at 4 pm EDT; 2014: online March 26 at 5 pm EDT, mailed by March 28)

Just a usual hunch based on their website. If anyone has the real date, please do let us know.

I emailed admissions earlier today, so I will let you guys know if I get a reply.

Here’s what they said: “Thank you for contacting us! Our target date for Regular Decision applications is April 1st. We are currently reviewing thousands of applications as fast as possible and will send our decision notifications as fast as possible.”

So I’m not sure when the actual date will be.

My family has had several impressive interactions with Ms. Jill Medina in Oberlin’s admissions office. She is amazingly thorough and she takes the times to listen and evaluate every issue before her (I believe she was an art major, which makes sense.). In any event, if they have 1000s of applications then it could take a while–she doesn’t rush. The good news is that each package will get the type of scrutiny and evaluation you want it to receive. She took a lot of time to speak with my teen and she will know whether my high schooler is the right fit for Oberlin. That makes me feel good no matter how things turn out; sure I hope there’s an Obie in my future, but I trust the decision Ms. Medina will help make. (And “yes,” this is entirely anonymous.)

Are they going to email us when decisions are out?

Has anyone ever heard of someone getting accepted with no campus visit and no personalized communication with an admissions officer or faculty? (I mean in the past – not this year)

@choirsandstages I haven’t visited or shown any interest and I live an hour away. I’ll let you know if I get in lol.

Haha yeah I haven’t down interest or visited either

Lol ok thanks @BlackMagic81 and @someguy1234 - we had a visit planned but had to cancel because my D was in a musical and couldn’t get permission from the director to miss any rehearsals. It was due to poor planning on my part. :frowning: Even if she gets in, I’m guessing she probably won’t get enough merit money to make it feasible.

No problem. Oberlin is now my top choice so as long as the aid is decent I’ll attend

Hmm when I interviewed I did tell her that Oberlin was my first choice and wanted to ed2 there so I guess I did show some interest.

My daughter didn’t even get interviewed so I guess that’s a bad sign.

You have to request one. They are recommended but not required, so it isn’t a bad sign if you don’t have one

Ok thanks @BlackMagic81 - I think that looks very good for you and probably won you a lot of points, in addition to your ed2 application. Best of luck!

Hopefully but in the end I didn’t apply ed2 because I was deferred from Hopkins and was waiting to hear back. Plus I need a lot of financial aid and wanted to compare packages.

@BlackMagic81 u international?

Nope Arizona here
