pls try to note your stats as well as admit status. murrr - those are great stats and stil waitlisted? what did you mean by saying 94 pct and 101 pct? what is your income level?

my d was waitlisted too and is down

act=30

nmbr 2 in class of 350
QB finalist (and financially needy)
great ECs

I am wondering if we were too financially needy for this place? Others got in to OC from our HS with similar stats (probably a bit lesser). too bad they cd not just say this honestly so that the kid doesnt think it was a demerit on their part.

My son’s stats: ACT- 32, GPA W- 4.25, UW- 3.94. rank 2/240, ECs- Eagle Scout, President Student Council Exec Board, President BPA and qualifier for National competition last year, theater (roles in two school plays), Exec board of his school’s freshman mentoring program, serving on the school’s curriculum committee. Accepted to Michigan and Kalamazoo College. Waitlisted at Oberlin. Rejected from Northwestern. Waiting to hear from one today but if he couldn’t get into Oberlin we’re pretty sure today’s news will be bad. I’m also wondering if we were too “needy” or if his ECs seem too “establishment” or conservative although he’s uber liberal.

I don’t see a lot of rhyme or reason behind who is accepted and who rejected. Lot’s of impressive stats here. It is hard to resist thinking money has something to do with it.

@coachc13, I suspect you’re right. My D was accepted (SAT - 2140, IB diploma, GPA UW - 3.72, W - 4.46, HS does not rank). ECs, I think, were solid. I did not read her essay, but writing is her strength. We are full-pay. I’m not surprised she was accepted, and wouldn’t have been shocked if she had been rejected, but I was very pleasantly surprised at the amount of merit money offered. D is my oldest, so this is my first time going thru the process. It’s all a mystery to me.

@sschickens, My S has similar stats and we are full pay also. Don’t know if he got merit money yet Looks like he is going to Wash U where they didn’t offer anything other than the NMS.

@coachc13, WashU is a terrific school. D will probably wind up at Oberlin, Denison or Muhlenberg, although that might change depending on results from Cornell, Swarthmore, and Haverford. I wish your son the best.

Thanks. Today is Ivy day, so maybe Cornell will come through.

Check out the Oberlin admissions blog about financial need and admissions decisions:

Good luck to all. Lots of good schools out there. In a year, you’ll likely be at a school you love and this setback will be far behind you.

Are you all receiving emails with your decisions or is there a place to check online?

I haven’t received anything and am getting worried!

@bachoff I got an email with a link; however that was just for the college, I haven’t heard anything from the conservatory

Thanks @mercedesjulia2

I’m waiting to hear from the college but haven’t had an email. Should I have received some log in information or something before now?

@bachoff I didn’t. I also found out early because of the multicultural visit program, so I wouldn’t worry if I were you
