Oberlin Early Write Decisions?

It seems like other schools began sending their "early write" decisions to a select group of applicants this past week (Feb26/Mar3).

Has anyone received anything like this from Oberlin? If so - please post your results here!

...and congrats to Kman who posted an early write acceptance on my earlier parents council letter thread! Didn't see that when I started this thread!

Oh, thanks, TheOldProf!!

Now I can start stressing about why my son hasn't gotten an early write to Oberlin yet...

Beth - don't stress too much. My son was accepted last year with a very nice merit award and did not get an early write.

I got an Early Write from Oberlin on the 13th of February and a very nice financial aid award (full :D). Hopefully, this will not be the only acceptance decision among the 19 applications I sent...

!!!!

I just got a decision letter in the mail from Oberlin today and I'm in. I could NOT be happier. I was not expecting to hear from them for several weeks and I was totally taken by surprise.. wow. I have never heard of "Early Write" but.. I like it. haha. It was a very nice surprise. Oh man. I don't even know what to say. Oberlin is among my top choices and I honestly didn't believe I'd be accepted.. and now.. ahh. I can't even believe it..

for those who were early written, what are your stats?

"19 applications"?!?!?!

....and people wonder why schools are having record numbers of applications!
Wow!

Anyhow - heartfelt congratulations - Oberlin is a grat place to be.

I GOT AN EARLY WRITE FROM OBERLIN TODAY!!!

the letter starts like this:
"Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to oberlin College's class of 2011.

We saw in you the kind of person who will exel at Oberlin. Someone who is academically and socially engaged, someone curious about life, and someone ready to take intellectual risks to better yourself and the world. YOur accomplishments, your passion, and your commitment to achievement make you a perfect fit for Oberlin."

im rly satisfied with the financial aid (so generous,)

p.s. i never got Ob Parents Council Letter...!!!

I'm innnnn! I screamed when I saw the big envelope in my mailbox! I'm going to Oberlin! YAY

Oh my, I actually get to do my own accepted student stats post!!

Female, Hispanic, very academically rigorous public high school in Massachusetts

3.70 weighted GPA
(our weighting is a little different than some, but it's still a bit of a lackluster GPA. I didn't start out high school in that many honors classes. I don't know what my unweighted GPA is.)

(Best Combined) SATI: 2180 (1440 without writing)
Math 640
Verbal 800
Writing 740

SATIIs (eek. I should've studied for these.)
600 Biology (10th grade)
660 Literature
650 Latin

Extracurriculars (also quite lackluster, but I have been committed to them): Volunteering (2 hours/week, all 4 years of high school) with mentally handicapped children taking horseback hippotherapy lessons; Work (>15 hrs/wk, since Spring 2006); Creative Writing Club (2 hrs/wk since 11th grade); Latin Club (1-2 hrs/wk, it just started this year); Photography/Art Club (3 hrs/wk 10th-12th)

I liked my essays. My recommendations were decent, but not great.

Honors/Awards:
National Merit Commended Student
National Hispanic Recognition Scholar
Junior Class Latin Award
Junior Class Math Department Award
Gold Metal on the National Latin Exam (10th grade)
Summa Cum Laude on the NLE (11th)
National Latin Honor Society

Hooks: I'm very very into Latin and I elaborated ad nauseum on that to make up for some of my less strong suits. Also, minority status I'm sure didn't hurt.

Oh here's mine:

African American Female, Top high school in district but in an urban area
Georgia!
SAT = 1800....MORBID...but I'm in so whatever

ACT= 28

UW GPA = 3.6 W=4.0

All honors and AP (AP Euro, AP US History, AP Comparative Government, AP US Government, AP Lit, and AP Lang.)...I'm really liberal artsy

Class rank: 41/ 367 (I'm in an academic magnet program so really stiff competition)

Extracurriculars: Medical Internship, Academic Decathlon, Academic Quiz Bowl, Model UN, NHS, Key Club, Keyettes, Principal's Advisory Council

Possible Hooks: African-American, 1st Generation, Selected for MVP Fly-In, Good Essay, Great Reccommendations

I really was thinking I wouldn't make it, but I guess the Fly-In was a big hint that I would. The financial aid package is amazing, I'm paying only for books :)

Hey, congrats to all you who got in!
Where do you guys live? Just wondering because I'm all the way in Connecticut and if an early write is on the way (fingers crossed) it might be a day or two later...
Thanks!

Well I'm in Georgia which is further away, but keep checking the mailbox. I was actually waiting on scholarship finalist info but this is SO much better

I haven't received an early write, but I live in NYC so I'm hoping I get one in the next couple of days.

This may sound crazy... but I checked to see if I can log into Presto. I know only newly admitted students can access it, so I was curious. And I actually logged in... now I don't know if this means I'm already admitted or that there's some problem with the site. But has anyone else tried it?

i live on long island :)

Thanks! I'm waiting to hear back from some other schools, but Oberlin's definitely in my top few, so it's very exciting. It'll probably come down to a combination of factors, particularly seeing which school offers the best financial aid package. Oberlin offered me a scholarship of 12k a year, which is awesome. So yeah, we'll have to see.

I'm DEFINITELY going to Oberlin. I have a full ride (only paying for books and travel expenses) so it'd be stupid of me to turn them down

Congratulations :).

Ya - my son's friend got notification of acceptance on 3/3
