Which is the overall better college in your opinion? I understand each has its strengths, but OVERALL.

There is no such thing as the better overall college. Each one fits needs for different people.

I think that Oberlin is better overall.

I agree with Post #3's choice of Oberlin because it is larger & offers students more options socially & academically.

Oberlin might edge out Kenyon academically - - but only by a nose. I visited both and found Kenyon to be better for my D. Oberlin students were too quirky for her and though post #4 says Oberlin offers more socially, we found Kenyon to be stronger in that area - - especially with respect to athletics. Kenyon was a bit more remote.

They are both high quality schools that are different from each other. Oberlin will appeal more to the artsy, quirky students. Kenyon will appeal to mainstream students who like athletics. If music is your thing either for listening or participation, Oberlin is your hands down best choice. If you enjoy participating in sports and people on the far left make you feel uncomfortable, you would be better off picking Kenyon. If none of these things is an issue to you, then look at other things. Oberlin is bigger and has reasonable access to Cleveland. Oberlin is probably better known. Both schools are excellent schools. Visit both and decide for yourself.

Nice summation Shennie.

Then avoid Kenyon too. They are #19 on the Princeton Review Most Liberal List.

Of course a conservative could always hide out in the political science department, which is slightly to the left of the Federalist Society.

I think these schools are so close in academic quality that you should visit both and decide where you'll fit in and flourish. I think you get a very different feel/vibe from the two schools after spending time.

FWIW, I've been especially impressed by the Kenyon graduates that I've come across of late.

oberlin does have communal coed showers though
