Oberlin, or Noberlin? chances?

<p>how likely, or is it likely at all, that Oberlin's College of Arts and Sciences might accept a person who's application includes: (probably Early Decision)</p>

<p>6 total APs taken junior & senior year, 5 in US History, 4 in Language and Comp; music theory, physics, lit and comp, US gov tests not yet taken
2180 SAT - 760 reading, 740 math, 680 writing
33 ACT
4.13 weighted GPA
school ranks only by decile, in top 10% at one of the "top" public schools in the wonderful state of pennsylvania if that means anything</p>

<p>ECs:
worked a summer and end of school year job running food and bussing tables
bass- not involved in any school bands, but might play in pit orchestra for the musical this year?
played in a couple bands, including one for 2+ years that has played with a couple nationally touring bands, recording an ep now, etc
several benefit shows with band
adopt-a-highway litter control
recreational basketball league for 1 year - no other sports
ECHO coffeehouse club that sets up shows for bands to play at the school
dark room photography
plan to volunteer for English as a Second Language at local library later this year for 6 month commitment
peer tutoring in physics this year</p>

<p>neither of my parents are college graduates</p>

<p>have faith in me and assume I will a great essay and supplement essay</p>

<p>I am mainly worried about those extra curriculars and what my unweighted gpa might turn out to be</p>

<p>Your stats seem great and you’ve taken challenging courses. You need to present your EC’s in a way that shows what your passions are. Seems to me that you have a passion for music and maybe if you show that you’ve been pursuing the bass and your band over 4 years that will help. Were you the person to set up gigs or do you write songs? Are there challenges involved with being in a band? I didn’t pick up on any other passions but maybe if you think about it, they’re there. I can’t say what your chances are but I’ve heard that colleges want to know who you are, what your sustained interests are and what you’ll bring to campus. Also, I think my daughter’s Why Oberlin essay showed that she had a real understanding of the Oberlin vibe. Hope this helps a little.</p>
