Oberlin outdoor recreation?

I'm probably going to be attending Oberlin this fall and I was wondering what the outdoor recreation opportunities are like. I love rock climbing and hiking, but Oberlin isn't the most ideal location for these kinds of things. Do other students make an effort to take outdoor trips on the weekends? How is Oberlin's outdoor program?

I applied to other liberal arts colleges in the west that are more "outdoorsy" but I won't be able to attend due to their cost.

outdoors - here is a blog post for you.

Our second year D grew up hiking and camping. She loves Oberlin and has found plenty of opportunities to be outside and lots of friends with similar interests. The Cuyohoga National Park is quite large and easily accessed - but you do need a car or someone with one. But that’s not too difficult to find: [Oberlin Blogs | Blog Entry: “Impressions from a Yalie”](http://blogs.oberlin.edu/about/ethos/impressions_fro.shtml)

There is an active rock climbing club. There are usually climbing trips at spring and fall break.

Daughter also wonders about this, and is considering U of Puget Sound for that reason. Saving $14/K year over Oberlin helps too.

@Upstreaming, I was also accepted to Puget Sound but it’s too expensive. Going to Oberlin is about $16,000 cheaper per year for me :/

I also was accepted at Lewis & Clark College, Willamette, and Whitman but they’re all pretty expensive too… which is unfortunate because they were my top four choices

Wow, our DD was accepted to both Oberlin and Puget Sound too! And she too will want to keep hiking/biking/running, especially on or near campus. Where do Oberlin residents go for a run or stroll? Any unpaved paths on campus or nearby?

There is the Oberlin arboretum, which is lovely. Also a pretty extensive network of bike paths.

My D also volunteered here and built her own bike. http://oberlinbicyclecoop.■■■■■■■■■■/
