Hello Everyone!
Oberlin is my top choice, but for financial reasons i’ve applied regular decision!
I have a 3.8 GPA
1370 New SAT
many leadership positions; President of my school’s Zonta Club, vice president of Leo club, vice president of French Honor Society and a team leader of the Academt of Finance.
I wrote a very specific “Why Oberlin” essay and a personal essay that I think is very powerful.
Please chance me! Be honest!
Also! I’ve taken 7 AP courses, and 3 courses at my local community college.
Hi @SnowPastoral - it is so hard to chance for RD! Did you look at the stats for RD2020? There are a lot of applicants with top scores and grades so please share a few more details and it may give a better idea. Where are you applying from? Do you have any hooks? Is your GPA unweighted or weighted?
Also, do you have access to Naviance? If so that is the best indicator of your chances because that compares you to other applicants from your actual school. Oberlin weights rigor very high and they rate each each school differently as you can imagine.
I think you would have a decent shot based on the limited info but these things are so hard to tell. Best of luck!
Hi @LMC9902 I’m applying from Buffalo, NY and my GPA is unweighted! I do have access to naviance but because only one other person from my school has applied to Oberlin in the past 5 years, there’s no data for naviance to display!! In my essay i wrote about my passion for creative writing (which i plan to pursue at oberlin) and how i want to use writing to create a more progressive world that’s safe for everyone to live in.
Thanks so much
My daughter was just accepted tonight through ED1 and she intends to study creative writing too. Her stats are similar to yours for GPA but somewhat higher for ACT. Her school is well known for it’s academic strength so it’s hard to compare to other schools because I can’t speak with any authority. I think you should make sure to interview and connect with people in admissions, that’s what she did and I think it helped a lot. Find out who your admissions rep is and email them and get to know them so they can advocate for you.
Do you have any hooks (URM, First Gen etc?)
