Obscure Major for UCB OOS help/not help?!!?

Hey
i was wondering if applying to Berkeley in a more obscure major will help chances for admission esp. for OOS students like me?
also..does berkeley let students change their majors after they are admitted?
thanks for any replys!

If you're applying within the college of letters and science it doesn't matter. It may be more difficult if you're applying to another college.

And yes.

The rules don't prevent you to do so, but if your primary interest (shown in your activities) does not fit your claimed major, do you think it might hurt your chances?

And by the way, it's competitive to change majors especially if you try to switch into Engineering.

applying for majors in different colleges might affect your chance of getting admitted (though I wouldn't expect it to be a considerable amount). If you're talking about applying for different majors within the same college, for example, L&S, it makes no difference. All undergrads in L&S enter undeclared anyway, and have to declare their majors at the beginning of their junior year. Even if you put down an impacted major, you still have to apply for the major in your junior year. So applying to major in math, biology, political science, history, etc.. will not make any difference.

For the majority of the majors, it isn't difficult to switch. For some, where impaction is present, it is. Engineering can be difficult to switch into.
