What is with people loving SoCal? First, it was the creation of the suburbs that made Los Angeles popular with its urban sprawl. Then, a television in every home and advances in movie technology popularized Hollywood. Beverly Hills in the 90's. Now, we have two shows, OC and Laguna Beach, that take place in Orange County. What is going on? What's next, a show in Riverside and San Bernardino counties?

Sorry, felt like ranting. Maybe you all know how I feel?

What??!??!! Blasphemy I say!! The OC is the most amazing program ever (heh), and Southern California looks like the most awesome place in the world.. how can you not like it? All those rich snobbish people living in huge mansions who own about 10 cars each.. all the girls are hot.. great weather.. it's brilliant. I want to go and live there.

P.S. Apparently the OC is a girly program in the States? Slighty embarassing for us Brits who worship it..

Blek! I don't like SoCal, and I KNOW it doesn't look like that in real life. It looks worn down from California not updating its infrastructure.

They should make a show about ATL. Oh wait, they do... it's called cops.

I was watching "Orange County" (funny movie... you should rent it). I loved its depiction of the place. I also connected with the main character pretty well and know how he feels. I sooooo want to get out of Cobb County, especially this ghetto part of it! It's like my friggin OC of ATL (except I live in the bad part with the crime, not the nice part with the nice homes and cars). Yet, I know how it has shaped me, too. So, it inspired my new essay. Isn't that funny? My new college essay has inspiration from a comedy with Jack Black that takes place in OC. HAHAHA. IDK why that is funny to me.

Yeah, it's pretty freaky. Housing tracts pop up like daisies. I happen to live in Nowheresville, CA, and still people flock to it. It's a freaking desert, with nothing but a shopping mall and some dried-up-shrubbery to its name. That's like most of SoCal, honestly. When you're driving along through cities, it's like "junkyard junkyard junkyard PRETTY! junkyard junkyard junkyard." Of course they only film the pretty.

Sorry, Lucky98. My image of San Diego is far from idealic...Balboa Park is nice, though. Or if you live in La Jolla....darn rich people....

tkm, I know how you feel. We give out 80,000 permits in metro-ATL every year, the most of any metropolitan area. They sprout up everywhere, and in town they tear down old ranch homes and build large McMansions (a 40-60 ft high, 6000-9000 sq ft home beside a small 20 ft high, 900-1800 sq ft home looks rediculous). They won't stop handing out permits... land it far too plentiful, there are no natural boundaries, development laws are really permissive, and there are 125 municipalities in the area. We just sprawl out!

Though, we do have really really cheap housing ;).

the bay area is so freaking awesome. you can get almost anywhere by walking, and you'd want to walk in a city like san francisco too!! Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate Bridge, Mission Bay, Downtown, Castro, City Hall, the Haight-Ashbury.. all places that are in within walking distance from each other, you can walk anywhere in 30 to 45 minutes... great exercise and great community! And it's so pretty too!! you can't get that in the burbs, and you're missing out when you're needlessly utilizing cars and throwing pollution in the air just to go to the grocery store down the block too...
