Obstinate Hopeful Hoyas

I created this thread for all of us that Georgetown happened to overlook during the EA round. We all still have a great shot at RD. Please feel free to use this thread for organizing and planning what you're going to send to G-town in preparation for the RD round as well as any other attempts you're going to make at securing a spot as a Hoya next year.

I'm going to take the next few days off from the G-town application process to rest and reflect upon all that has happened, and I suggest everyone else that was deferred do the same. Go see a movie, chill out, take a rest.

Then come back and let's do all we can to let G-town know that we're coming next year, one way or another. :)

By the way, I assume that any additional material we elect to send in is due by the RD date of Jan. 1?

I don't know the answer to that Josh, I'd call the office. To all deferred applicants, I quote "Traditionally about 85% of the applicant pool is academically qualified to be admitted"--straight from the horse's mouth.

By the way, the regular application deadline for Georgetown is January 10th...

calidan - if possible could you go on AIM

it'd be awesome to talk to you guys on AIM.

add me: Midnightdanzer

Josh, that's some good advice. I am so not going to think about Georgetown this weekend. It's my birthday!!! hehe gotta concentrate on just enjoying that.
:-)

i'm finally turning 17.

Happy Birthday!

RD: they take +-15% of deferred pool i.e HOW MANY?

Between 450-500. There were 4000 applicants, they took 22% or 880, leaving 3120 deferred. 15% of the 3120 is 468, so somewhere around there.

Eugh. That number doesn't look too hopeful. When we send in our midyear report from our guidance counselor, should we check regular decision now? Why don't they admit more of the deferred EAers if 85% are qualified?

--Lauren

+- 15,000 applicants total
4000 early 11000 RD
500/11000 = 4.5% of deffered....eugh???

heh, this is a funny thread...

I cried today in the bathroom-- I had to take a break from classes and go cry in a public place! how embarrassing! my mind is just insane right now.

Irony piles on, as well-- today the head of the law program at my school offered me a Student Ambassador position at the Central Islip Courthouse along with a lucrative internship. Perhaps if I had this gem of an EC I would not have been deferred? who knows. whatever.

I'm sending another rec, a letter of my own detailing the internship, midyear grades and another essay about my dual citizenship. grr.

Hey everyone! I'm glad to see that we're all not giving up. I was deferred SFS also.

Does anyone want to chat? I'm on AIM..sn is redmarkers101. Josh, babybird, anyone. What are you screen names? I feel like I need some company in this deferral pool :) I would love to talk to some of you about how to combat this deferral business. Ugh. I definetely underestimated how much of a blow that was.

Hi everyone...does anyone know if we are supposed to use the teacher rec. form for additional teacher recs. or if we should just get them to write a letter? I am so confused but extremely excited...today was my last day of school before winter break. Yay! Makes the whole deferral issue just a little bit easier...what's really sad is that my cousin was rejected from Georgetown law school :( I think she was rooting for G-town more than I was.

i didn't realize the odds would be so ...slim!

thank you jangel !

I still have a couple of days until I'm out. Then it's full-force on college apps (and some Christmas shopping, which I haven't done at all :)).

I plan to submit a letter, additional recs, and possibly another essay (topic unknown at the moment). I don't know whether or not we need to use the teacher rec form, but I would assume a letter w/o the form would be fine.

I might also try to get another rec from my counselor, although I'm not sure what else I could ask him to say. I'm also going to get in contact with the Georgia G-town Student Ambassador, and see what advice he might have. I'm trying to pull out all the stops until April. I considered contacting the alum that conducted my interview, but my interview wasn't all that great and I didn't really care for him all that much; in fact, the interview probably hurt me if anything.

Oh well, I've got focus on finals right now. Study, study, study. :)

BTW, I'm joshh8705 on AIM.

Josh, what kind of a letter?

I think I'm sending in two more recs, a more specific counselor rec, maybe another essay, and i will try and have my counselor call the local GU rep for advice.

The ambasssador thing is a nice suggestion. I forgot about that.

I'm really thinking about another interview. My first was with an old College grad who couldn't answer my questions and did not evaluate me enough. We sat down for 45 mins, and it was boring and quiet. I would like to have had an SFS alum look at me.

my sn is cyanidecygnet

I think my interviewer must have said that Gtown wasn't my first choice. The thing is, both Gtown and Dartmouth are tied in my mind. When the interviewer asked about special feelings I had for colleges, I of course talked about Gtown first, then I mentioned the first college I ever visited was Dartmouth when i was 6. She started asking me questions about that so i thought it was safe to answer! she must have seen right through it. lol.
