Obtaining a SPN for Computer Science Class

I am a sophomore intent on becoming a computer science major, but I desperately need the "Intro to Computer Science" class in order to achieve that. I attempted to register into the class in the end of freshmen year, but no positions were open. I constantly checked on the class over the summer, but to no avail. So, about 2-3 days after the semester started, I applied for a special permission number (SPN). At the time, I only applied for 3 sections in my SPN application as they were the only ones open to upperclassmen. Just 2 days ago, all the sections suddenly opened to all students, but there were still no open spots. I emailed CS help regarding my SPN application, asking if they could reset my application so that I could add to my range of chosen classes now that all the sections were open (so that it could somehow increase my "likelihood of getting in"), but still have not received any reply. I suppose I am just getting edgy and nervous because the add/drop date is quickly approaching, and I have not received any responses from the other end. Would it be better to ask someone from the CS department or ask a CS professor for advise? Or is just hoping for the best my only option?

I am not really understanding your question. All sections are now open, but there are no spots left?

Do you have a SPN?

I would call CS dept directly and ask for SPN.

I apologize for my unclear explanation. I just tried to cram all the details in lol. I did apply for a SPN as all the sections were now open but no spots were available. But, I did not receive a reply yet. Is it possible to call and ask for a SPN directly? If so, would you happen to know where to call in the CS department? Thank you!

I would just call the department and talk to the secretary. She will tell you who you have to ask. Sometimes the secretary will give it to you, sometimes you have to go to class and ask the instructor. SPNs are limited and not guaranteed.

I got this message from Andrew Tjang.

Hello,

Unfortunately, all CS111 special permission numbers have been distributed. We literally have no space to accommodate any additional students.

Your best bet at this point, is to monitor webreg for any openings that may come up during the add/drop period.

The way I got my SPN was by applying for one before the semester started. I applied for one online through the CS department website and received a SPN through email the next day.

Thank you!! I applied for a SPN online but didn’t get one. Luckily, a spot miraculously opened on Webreg.

yay congrats
