Obtaining an Instrument

I’m not majoring in music, so sorry to bother you all, but I need help. I want to play (and by want to I mean need to or I might die) in college, but I’ve relied on rental french horns these 7 years. I am working this summer, but I am required to buy my own incidentals so what I earn has to last me the entire year which leaves little room for buying a horn. I’m really in a pickle, I have no idea how I’m going to get a horn before I leave in August. So here I am asking if anyone knows where I can get a severely discounted horn (I’m working on hornplayer.net and craigslist) or how I can rent one from someone or some entity or whatever other ideas anyone has. This is totally a shot in the dark, but I’ll take whatever I can get.

Many colleges have instruments available for rent at a minimal price if you’re taking lessons. Have you investigated that at the colleges you’ve applied to? Sometimes you’ll need to dig deep into the student handbook for the information. Or you could email the music department, of course.

I’ve gone through about half. Some said they do not rent, and the others I just couldn’t find. I’ll email the rest tomorrow when I’m in less of a frenzy.
