Obtaining Banneker/Key Scholarship

How difficult is this?

excellent gpa and SAT scores are very helpful for this. i know a few banekker keys, and a lot of them had perfect gpa's and high SAT's, but almost not EC's, so i dont think that affects it as much. oh, and be a minority. if you're white, its a lot harder to get. black or hispanic is a plus, asian and white not so much.

Im interested in this as well. I have a 2310 SAT I, a 4.00 GPA and two 800 SAT II's (US History and Math II). I am white however. How realistic are my chances for the Banneker Key?

No shot. You need 2400. Sorry. Seriously, what do you think?

A couple people who got it posted their stats in this thread (including myself) http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=164975

It really is a sweet deal if you get it.

Yeah, my math teacher told our class what a good deal it was, but she said it was really hard to get. If I got that, I would probably go to UMD. But it looks really competetive, so who knows. Thanks for the link btw.

I go to Maryland...

there are 200 B/K scholarships. 170 go to in-state kids.

If you're instate, you probably have to be >90th percentile...(if you're white). If you're outstate, you have to be really really good.

They ask about 350 people to come interview for the 200 spots in March. Everyone not awarded a B/K is offered the Presidential Scholarship.

Hmm...wow, I didn't know the in-state, OOS division was that harsh.

I know a bunch of kids with that scholarship...It's an amazing deal, some people have turned down schools like Columbia, Cornell, and UPenn for it.

^and Stanford. :)
