Occidental College (Oxy)

Based on other threads I have seen, some kids with really high scores/gpas get rejected and others kids with lower scores get in. Oxy seems peculiar in that sense. Any advice/feedback is appreciated. Thanks :slight_smile:

I am a white female from Alabama applying RD, majoring in molecular biology

-GPA: 3.98 uw weighted: 4.23
-ACT 30; writing 10
-did not take the sat or any subject tests
-class rank 13/530 at a large public high school
-In IB program; have all As in every IB class (so far)

  • Took 3 AP courses in addition to IB: AP euro 3, AP US history 4, AP calculus 3
  • ECs/volunteer/work experience
    1.)Varsity Tennis player for one year in grade 10 (awarded highest winning percentage player)
    2.)Vice President of Unity in diversity grades 11,12 , a club that spread diversity awareness in elementary schools
    3.) Club tennis player grades 9,10 (was on a team that finished 13th in the country in 2012)
    4.) Students Helping Students grades 11,12, a school based volunteer tutoring program for elementary school kids
    5.) Nursing Home Volunteer summers of grades 10,11
    6.) Cashier at a restaurant grades 11,12
    7.) Youth tennis coach for summer training camps, summer of grade 11
    8.) Member of Soccer Sweethearts, supports the school soccer team; was voted to serve as committee chair for the annual soccer for a cure game, a fundraising event that raised over 2,000 dollars

-Honors:
1.) National Junior Honor Society, 9,10
2.) Hal Moore Leadership Program,9, a selective leadership program at my school
3.) National Honor Society-11
4.) Spanish Honor Society-11
5.) AP scholar-12

-From what my teachers and counselors say, I have a well-written, good essay and short answers

  • The teachers who wrote my rec letters, English and biology teachers, know me pretty well and like me a lot
