Occidental College RD 2022

D was accepted with 10K per year, which puts tuition, room and board at 60K! Yikes.

SAT in low 1400s, all A’s with a full IB diploma, ECs in drama and music. Legacy.

Accepted!! with $60,000 merit scholarship

@bfinklestein I think you hit the nail on the head. You thought Oxy was your safety and they probably thought the same thing- that neither you nor hellokittyhater was serious about attending. Still hurts- but I’m sure it will work out.

Rejected with a 30 ACT and 11 writing, 3.7 UW GPA, mostly AP/Honors. I had a lot of great EC’s and leadership as well as volunteer work and I am a nationally published and award-winning journalist and editor of my school paper.
Hook: small, midwestern High school, family who go there
I could see my 9th grades being problematic, but I had some pretty unique extenuating circumstances. I wasn’t planning on attending but it still hurts the ego if you know what I mean LOL

I’m confused why kids apply where they won’t attend anway; wastes parents money! S accepted, 34 ACT, ~3.7ish UW (10AP), lots of ECs with leadership, 20k/yr merit. Definitely a top contender for him and will be attending admitted student day. Excited!

@openskies123 We didn’t know where my D would get in, and where she would get more merit money at the time of application. Since that time, and before we got the Oxy results, she got into schools that she liked more, with more money. Therefore, by the time she got the Oxy acceptance, she already knew she would not be attending.

My son applied to Oxy several years ago with less than stellar stats. He was waitlisted and then accepted, but Oxy wouldn’t match the merit award he received from a larger, private university in NY so he declined admission. Besides the money factor , 18 year olds change their mind frequently. In the fall they may want to go West Coast, but by the spring they want to go East Coast. I don’t think applying to schools you may want to go to is a waste of money at all. Merit awards show the prospective student that the school really likes him or her, and that’s an important consideration, among other things.

Accepted !

Does anyone know Oxy’s acceptance rate for this year?

Yesterday was a Waitlisted Day for my D. Got both at Oxy and Davidson. More limbo cuz she remains interested in both!

@Eertbarc Did you receive your Merit Based Scholarship in the status page or in the admission package?

@Tripartite Mine was shown on the second page of the online acceptance letter
