Does this school have any prestige and what kind of programs are they really strong in? Do they have a strong english or communications program?

The strongest programs, to my knowledge, are things related to International Studies and Politics.

Please do not overly rely or place value on the term "prestige." Look instead to the inherent academic rigor. That being said, you will find that Occidental College is overall an excellent college. Moreover, its students have rated it as a very enjoyable college experience. It's a popular school for intellectually inclined, brainy but well-rounded suburban type kids.

yeah, i understand what your saying. I just put prestige for lack of a better term.

does anyone else have an opinion?

barak obama went there.

Yes, Barack Obama did in fact go there. For 2 years I believe. Then he transferred to Columbia.

Hopefully our President soon as well.

Anybody else care to comment?

if youre doing med or prelaw, its good
they have programs with yale for med and columbia for law school, where you go to occidental for 3 years and then transfer to yale/ columbia and do however many years law or med school is.. i know law school is 3

but anyways, then at the end you graduate with a bachelors degree and med/law degree
so i guess they have that hookup..the only other awesome thing is that they have an internship program with the United Nations, something not a lot of schools can brag about.

location's kinda sketch though. when i visited it, it was like a cute little place in the middle of some trashy part of LA

I would say that in terms of "overall common-man prestige" it hasn't got a lot, but you have since indicated that that isn't really what you meant.

In terms of quality of education, quality of life, and respectibility within the academic community, which is what you seem to want, it's great quality. But that's only from what I've heard/read, I'm not terribly familiar with it at all.
