Occidental College's program to transfer to CAL Tech or UC Berkley

So I recently heard about a program for computer science in oxy where for three years you study at oxy and after you can transfer to either Cal Tech or Berkley. So I was wondering if anyone would recommend this or any heads up about it I should know

It is with Columbia and Caltech. Minimum 3.5 college GPA at Occidental to remain eligible to transfer, but transfer admission to Columbia or Caltech is competitive beyond that.

https://www.oxy.edu/academics/areas-study/physics/3-2-engineering-faq-0 says that “In a typical incoming class, a good 20 students express interest; by the time they get to junior year, there are rarely more than 3.” It does not mention the admission rate to Columbia or Caltech.

You can major in CS at Occidental and other colleges without having to do a 3+2 program.

Keep-in-mind that you’ll essentially be paying an extra year’s worth of tuition (and cost of living) in-order to graduate with 2 Bachelors degrees. The FAQ @ucbalumnus linked to states that financial aid doesn’t transfer from Occidental and you’ll need to apply to financial aid (if the school offers it for 3-2 students) at the other school. If your heart is truly set on attending UCB (Caltech’s extremely small and takes few, if any, transfer students,) you could always attend a CC (if in CA) and try transferring to UCB, if not offered freshmen admission.

Hope that helps! Good luck with admissions!

In your opinion is it worth it for someone to get a B.A and a B.S? or should I focus on maybe just a B.S at an another four year?

i’d spend the time and money on an advanced degree vs a second bachelors of any type. Especially if you have the stats to be a viable candidate for a program like that.
