I really like these two schools. I am from Los Angeles county, I am looking for a laidback vibe. I also want the school to be really beautiful. It MUST have a good History and Political Science Program. I also want green spaces and lawns to be able to work on and must have at least a small college town or something around the school. I would also like a good sculpture program. Which one better fits what I want? The one I choose of these will be early decision.
@littylamp, have you researched each school as they have very different vibes and aren’t the same selectivity range -your current stats would make Hamilton a super reach. Have you considered Trinity, Franklin and Marshall or Skidmore?
I have considered all of those schools. I hated Trinity when I visited, Franklin and Marshall was on my list but I took it off, and Skidmore is currently on my list
Have you visited Occidental and Hamilton? What’s beautiful to some, may not be beautiful to another. For instance, I think Hamilton has a lovely campus, but would not say it is “really” beautiful. Though I’m sure others may feel differently. It does have lots of green spaces, but they are likely to be covered with snow for a good portion of the year. The town of Clinton is very cute but not in walking distance to the campus.
But I agree with @Chembiodad that your chances for admission even with the ED bump are slim there so you may want to look at more realistic options for ED
My nephew had a 4.24 GPA (3.89 unweighted) and a 1310 SAT. He was rejected from Hamilton but accepted at Oxy. I visited Oxy with him and really liked the campus. Haven’t been to Hamilton, but I agree it’s quite a reach with your stats.
With respect to sculpture facilities, I’m not sure that any LAC, including those that may be specifically known for visual arts, offers a more impressive fine arts building than Hamilton:
“The first fall of snow is not only an event, it is a magical event. You go to bed in one kind of world and wake up in another quite different, and if this is not enchantment, where is it to be found?”
OP btw, my nephew chose to go to Franklin and Marshall and he loves it. I know nothing about sculpture programs, though. Also, if you need aid, F&M meets 100% of financial need. They were VERY generous with my nephew.
