Occidental vs UCLA

One seems too small, and the other is enormous!!!!!!

I got a 60k for 4 years scholarship at Oxy, but i'm really torn between the two. Oh, and I'm also out-of-state. Will somone please help me out?

UCLA is in the midst of a huge budget crunch. It is definitely going to affect the quality of undergraduate education. It will become increasing difficult to finish in four years.

It sounds as though Oxy would cost a bit less with $15,000/year than oos UCLA. Although Oxy is small, it is just a few minutes away from UCLA and USC - you could pop over for big-school athletics and social life anytime and still enjoy the benefits of a smaller, more personal campus.

From my experience visiting Oxy, I felt that opportunities to a certain extent were never going to be on par with that of UCLA and USC. This may have had to do with the person giving a campus tour. She felt the need to say that sometimes Oxy students sneak into USC career days on campus, and interview with the recruiters and employers, because they sometimes don’t check IDs and can get away with it. I found that a bit of a turn off.

Considering your from out of state, it just seems so random why you’d even consider applying to two different schools. I would understand why you would need it as a financial back up if you were a cali resident, but if your thing is small school, I think you already have your answer?

UCLA does not rely on the State of CA for its budget. It makes up a small %. Academically this is a no brainer, UCLA, but is about fit and financial aid. It sounds like you got a better deal from Oxy. It worked out for Obama :-)
