Occupational Therapy Chances?

Hi,

I am a rising college senior at Boston University hoping to apply to OT programs in the upcoming application cycle. I know programs are very competitive and I’m nervous I won’t be accepted anywhere I apply.

Major: Behavior and Health
Minor: Special Education
Current Cumulative GPA: 3.65 (but I have a B- in anatomy and a B in physiology)
GRE: 311 (verbal 165, quantative 151, writing still TBA)

Ive been working for over a year as a rehabilitation aide in PT/OT clinics (helping patients move smoothly through exercise programs, bringing equipment as needed, bringing ice/heat as needed, answering office phone/cleaning office) and also have observed an OT in a special schools setting as well as an assistant living facility (but the latter was back in summer of 2016).

*316 is my cumulative GRE score, oops, typo!

@atribecalledbeck what is your Prereq GPA??

Overall GPA, GRE, and shadow experience look pretty solid. As you pointed out, the A&P grades are probably your weak link. Short of retaking those (or at least the Anatomy (B-), it’s probably worthwhile to keep strengthening your app as best you can by getting more shadow hrs across multiple OT settings. Apply to many schools and keep in mind that the A&P grades may be an issue at top tier schools so select appropriately.

Also suggest you use Student Doctor Network OT portal for further input and advice. Good luck!

OTR here. Cast a wide net. Go on the AOTA website to look at programs and pass rates. I’ve had excellent students from Towson, Medical University of SC and St Augustine. Good luck!
