I am currently in the process of looking for schools to apply to, and deciding on what to major in. If you have seen my recent threads you can tell that I am clueless as to what I want to do right now. I was doing a lot of research on careers and OT seems very interesting to me. My question is what can you major in for undergrad in order to get a masters in OT?
You can major in anything as long as you meet the course requirements to apply to OT school. Biology/Pyschology are popular majors but select a major that you are interested in pursuing.
Some examples of required courses:
General Pre-requisite Course Work:
Biology with lab (4 credits required)
Human Physiology with lab (4-8 credits required)*
Human (Systemic) Anatomy and lab (4-8 credits)*
Abnormal Psychology (3 credits required)
Introduction to Statistics (3 credits required)
Sociology or Anthropology (3 credits required)
Oral Communications (2-3 credits)*
Medical Terminology (1-2 credits)
Pre-req courses will be dependent upon which schools that you end up applying but the list above are some of the common courses.
Any sort of bio/psych/anthropology/sociology major works!
If you are sure about OT, you should look into direct bachelors-to-masters 5 year programs! They’re essentially 3+2 programs.
