Ocean Engineering in TAMU, How about the job prospect in oil rig business?

Hi, I am now considering the admission in Ocean Engineering Program in Texas A&M. Can this program help me find a job in Oil&Gas industry?

Yes. Ocean engineers often assist with the design of off shore oil rigs. I’d imagine that A&M, because of its prominence in the industry, is well connected with most of the major firms. A company needs someone who understands salinity, oceanic crust, and a variety of other factors which make off shore drilling a much more costly proposition than land based drilling.

Thanks. So you are saying that it is not difficult for a master graduate to find a job in the Oil&Gas Business? In fact my academic concentration is fluid mechanics, you know it is mainly about calculationg the force on the offshore platform caused by wave and wind.

That’s something you should ask the TAMU career services department or your adviser. Ask for a detailed survey of which companies are recruiting its grads, for what positions, and what salaries.
