ochem reference books

im going to be taking ochem next yr and was wondering if there are any good reference books (that have pretty good practice problems, explanations of concepts, etc) that i can use. I'm more of a hands on learner, so more practice and exposure, than just the required text from the course, is very important. I used Schaum's for gchem but is the Schaum's ochem book just as good? any suggestions? also i heard models are a good way to understand ochem. any recommended kits?

same questions above for physics..any good reference books?

i looked at the schaum ochem book, and it didn't look good enough to buy. I would recommend Organic Chemistry as a Second Language (both parts).

on the other hand, schaum's college physics book saved my butt last quarter. Physics is all about just churning out practice problems so any book would be fine, as long as a detailed solution is given to the problems (REA comes to mind).

ditto Bruinboy for the ochem books. They helped me master certain sections of the course that I didn't understand from the way the professor presented it.

D just purchased The Nuts and Bolts of O-Chem, which is suppose to be read prior to taking O'chem.

basically, if i take ochem now, there's no turning back in retaking general chem? ><

i would retake general chemistry

does anyone know how good the Nuts and Bolts of O-Chem book is?

It received one of the highest ratings (5 stars) on Amazon.com from numerous reviewers. D received it last night and is enjoying reading it. Well, at least however much you can "enjoy" O-Chem. At least she says she is understanding everything she's reading. It's also meant to be read "prior" to taking O-chem which is convienent for summer reading and to get a little head start. :)

I bought O-chem for dummies and O-chem as a second language (the new second edition) from amazon; but I'm still waiting on the shipment. If you go to amazon, they have a list-a-mania written by people and there are a few on "succeeding in O-chem" etc. I suggest you check it out as that's what I did before I bought my books; and be sure to read the reviews for the books as well.
