Sigh~ I just really hope you're right... I put 20 too.

there were only 2 seperate regions. region one was one there twice but counted as the same color.
and it wasn't called a baseball.

i agree completely with you VeganActress

yeah the math is easy on the question, just if it specified different color or not. i'm getting annoyed at this question, we need to find a copy of it.

I agree with rudy that the answer is 25.

I at first, like everyone else, did the simple permutation and marked 20.

However, I went back to look at it and never found a reason that the ball could not be fully red/fully blue...etc...because it asked for different designs (NOT colors).

Some people may think that it said different/distinct colors for the following reasons:

1) They marked 20.
2) They mistaked "different designs" for "different colors"
3) They think that a "design" cannot be a full color ball
4) Someone mentioned previously that since they were designated "Color 1" and "Color 2," so the colors must be different. However, since when can x and y both not = 2 in the following equation: x + y = 4? Never.

However, I need someone to honestly give me the exact wording (to the best of their ability) on how the problem said different colors. I never read "distinct" in the problem and I only read "different" once (in front of "designs.") I believe the problem went like this:

"The regions of the painting above need to be painted. The artist has 5 colors to choose from. How many different designs can he make?"

However, can anyone else phrase as accurately possible how they remember the question?

Well, the issue is that everyone can remember the problem pretty accurately. It's just the ONE WORD that no one can agree on. So we'll never know.

Please lets drop the question... we will not get anywhere with this ever. Just DROP it.

I put 20.

We'll find out come November 8th.

I am almost positive its november 2nd... same thing happened in may (MySAT said one week later.....) I hope though they came on 2nd... unless they are now rechecking.

they kept delaying it in may, so I'm expecting the same thing now.
but this question doesn't really matter anymore.

True. We should drop it.

However, it's really bothering me. Since this may separate me from a 2400. (No joke, my answers almost all coincide with the consensus, which I'm really happy about!).

And the thing that really sucks is that when I change answers, they usually turn out wrong. Hope I wasn't wrong here!

haha yeah, i already got my 800 in math, so whatever. hoping all my colleges see that, cuz i missed like 2 or 3 on this one.

I got 25 as well but that may because I over analyzed the problem... 20 seemed to be too obvious.

I thought it was a combination of 5C3 or something. Gah!

^ that is the reason you never use the calculator unless you are solving tedious equations (the questions in the beginning of the section). Never use calculator for harder questions.

I seriously doubt it was 25. When it says Color 1 and Color 2 it's pretty much telling you to use 2 different colors.
The location of the problem in the section probably is important too. I'm pretty sure it wasn't in the last 3-4 problems, which means the more obvious 20 should be the right answer.

I thought it was #15 out of 16 problems... I could be wrong though.
