Oct 20 - Saturday SAT - What'd You Think?

Well, it's finally over. I thought I'd start the inevitable discussion thread myself. Keep responses low profile (no answers/questions) until Monday. I'll start with my own responses:

I thought it was a little bit too easy considering it is the PSAT. CR-Fun passages, reasonable questions, ok vocab; W-Pretty easy overall with a few tricks here and there. Though I don't want to judge it too hastily. M-Easy w/ a few tricky problems. Grid-ins were pushovers and one or two hard but do-able MCs. Overall: I have a feeling the curve won't be very good for any section...Predictions on NMSF cutoffs? (I'm in NJ anyway, so yeah...)

I felt the first two sections were pretty easy, maybe one hard vocab and probably two wrong on math section.

i think the next 2 sections were sort of hard.

writing was so-so.

Sounds just like the Wednesday PSAT- Everything relatively simple except for 1 or 2 tricky ones in each section.

I think the first CR section was hard....nasty vocab (passages were weird but easy)

The first math section was also mildly hard because of some tricky tricky questions.

The rest was nice.

The writing was a joke (easy 80)

I hope they have a nice curve though on the M + CR

NMS cutoffs shouldn't be very different from the usual, though I wouldn't be TOO surprised if they were lower.

Math was pretty good, as were CR and WS. The passages for CR were a lot of fun, that's for sure.

Yeah, I was so happy when I figured out that there were no Native American passages for once (nothing against NA's, the passages about them are just usually very boring). I have a feeling the cutoffs will be a bit more stringent than usual. The first math section had two tough questions, each requiring quite a bit of thought, but I already know I got them correct. Knowing Latin actually saved me on a few of the vocabs which was sweet.

What did you guys think about the the MCs for the 2nd math section?

Math - a few tricky, but easy.

Writing - Easy.

Critical Reading - Moderate.

^ "A few" is enough to make the difference between a 80 and a 60 o_O (since -1 is usually -2 to -5 or sometimes even -6 out of 80 on each section)

Sounds exactly like the Wednesday test. :D

Ack, just figured out that I actually missed one on the CR (vocab obviously). The only problems stemmed from CR (vocab, passage questions were straightforward and reasonable); section 2 on the math was a bit tougher, but overall it was certainly possible to get the right answers. I already cross-checked all math. Writing was easy to rush through with a few exceptions caused by confusing wording.

What do you guys think the curves will be like?

the writing curve is going to be really harsh, since it was sooooo easy (easy 80)
[1wrong = -3 or -4(unlikely)]

the critical reading will be moderate
[1wrong = -1 to -2]

math might be a little harsher than usual, since most of the questions were pretty easy (only about 2/3 hard ones in each section)
[1wrong = -2 maybe -3]

Math was really easy. I spoke two some of my other friends and the only tricky problems were the write in questions. Couple of them were sort of iffy.

CR vocab, I'm starting to realize, tripped me up a bit. Revised curve prediction:

Math - 1 wrong = 76
CR - 1 wrong = 78
W - 1 wrong = 76 or 77

Math -80
Cr- 30
Wr-30 JK
Naw but Cr is prolly like 70 and so is writing. I am pretty sure i got 80 on math, it was pretty tricky but i am pretty sure i got them all right.

I made two really really dumb errors on math so I got 2 wrong on it :( Probably got an 80 on Writing, and a 78 on CR. Anyone know what 2 wrong on Math would be?

i thought sentence completion was pretty hard

besides the vocab, everything else was really easy (math and writing was a joke), though i am not sure how i did on the long passages on the first section.

I am hoping
CR: -6? :(
M: -0
W: -0

around 226 hopefully.

can someone explain to me how many questions were in each section and how the scoring system works?

wait, I thought you could afford to get 2-3 wrong on the psat and still score 800?
