OCT 2008 SAT "How well did you do?" Thread

I missed 5 math

I'm toast

Oh no stueydue, 2150! Now you'll have to give up college and join McDonald's full time!

Go **** yourself.

anyone get that writing question.. it was something like
"when thinking of tv series with potential to be favorites, few come to mind."
vs
"when one thinks of tv series with potential to be favorites, few come to mind"

I couldn't find the obvious error making one of them wrong.. help?

first one is wrong because "thinking" modifies "few"..so when you rearrange the order, it would be like few thinking..which is definitely wrong.

Hopefully pulled a 2150+. I got the hard math questions right, but I generally screw up on an easy one.

lol, thats so ironic
I went backwards. Started from 20/18/16 to 1.
The proctor was giving me a weird face lol

actually, I think the sentences were
"....... of tv series with potential to be favorites, only a few come to mind

what's the answer in that case

I put A on that writing question. It was the last question in the section, and I think the answer was, "When thinking about tv series with potential to be favorites, only a few come to mind."

The other Choice was, "When ONE thinks about tv series"---but then the end would have to be HIS or HER mind. I think the answer was A

I felt oddly about this test. Not sure why, but it seemed hard and easy at the same time.

When I took the test in June, not counting the experimental section, I left 4 blank on CR, 12 blank on math (!), 1 blank on W, and got a 6 on my essay.

My scores were: 710 CR, 610 M, and 620 W (68 multiple choice), for a total of 1940.

This time I left 2 blank on CR, 1 blank on M, 0 blank on W, and I thought my essay was much better.

My predictions for the 23rd: ~700 CR, ~710 M, ~700 W, for a total of ~2110.

Hah, crossing my fingers.

lawl
clearpenthouse,
people say that that bout my 1940
so yeah. **** with your 2150.

worst case: M-660 CR-720 W-690 (basically the scores for my 1st round in May)

best case: M-690 CR-750 W-730

Made a stupid mistake on my math..hopefully it was the only one.
Writing was really tricky this time. I can usually bank on it...not so sure now.
CR was....well we'll see.
I spent all summer getting ready for this test...i think i might have done worse than the last one....so frustrating. anyone else in the same boat?

I'd say... 6.

I think I actually did WORSE on the math part (this is the second time I've taken it). I'd say... 750 on CR, 700 on W (those were super easy this time, IMO), and the math is totally up for grabs... anywhere from 400-600.

But, I'm going to take the ACTs on Oct. 25, so hopefully those will be awesome and I can just turn them in. So far, on the practice tests, I've been scoring from 25-33.

I wish we could fuse brains for the SAT....
my brain can do the math, your brain can do the CR and W :P

I actually thought Math was easy this time. The CR probably ****ed me. :(
Why would you omit questions if you can narrow it down? If you get it right then you score 1 point, if you get it wrong you only miss 1/4 point. The SAT was designed so that there would not be a guessing penalty(even though it may seem that way).

no, futurexreject, that's a common mistake. the scoring confuses everyone. for every correct answer, you get one point. for every omitted answer, you lose/gain nothing. for every wrong answer, you don't gain a point, but also lose 1/4. they add up all the correct answers and subtract the number of wrong answers divided by four. ex:

1 - correct

2 - incorrect

3 - correct

4 - correct

5 - correct

6 - correct

7 - incorrect

8 - omitted

9 - correct

10 - incorrect

there are 6 correct, 1 omit, and 3 incorrect. (6 correct x 1 pt) - (3 incorrect/4) = 5.25 then they round... so your raw score is 5. then they convert it to the scaled 200-800 score.

also, everyone else that is whining about their below 700 scores, stop freaking the rest of us out. getting below a 700 on the sat reasoning isn't the end of the world, and it's not even considered bad. i know a bunch of you are shooting for ivys and such, but in the real world, in the other non-ivy competitive schools, scores in the 600s are average for their acceptance. so really, gain some perspective. an 800 on any section can't even guarantee your acceptance into an ivy, so stop depending your life on your SAT scores, because they're not the be-all end-all of college acceptance.
