Oct-27 Reading

Any questions?

I retook a 35 (MI students got free tests), and can't get more than like 3 or 4 wrong on the entire test depending on the curve, and there is one question that is driving me nuts. #39 on reading: What does the love refer to? I put love for man (c) bc the guy filmed the squid bc he had love for his girlfriend. Now, he filmed it bc his girlfriend has love for marine biology (b), so what is the answer? Does man refer to mankind? or does man refer to the romantic love? This is why I can't stand standardized tests.

I put for someone else (girlfriend)

yeah i put for someone else also

does anyone remember any of the questions for the music one? I was rushing on that one so I don't know if I did too well...

Yes, I put "for someone else" for that question, too.

Did anyone get whole bunch of Bs and Gs on the second passage of the reading section?

On the first one with the girl on the farm. Was it penned?
And i didn't really quite get the first question about her not going to college or not..?

i put the third answer (C/H) for the penned one, no idea what it was, but it wasnt shut, penned, fenced, or.. whatever the last one was. and that she was excited about college but anxious about things that might affect her going

I put held...

^ same

I felt the first reading was completely confusing so I skipped that one and did the others before returning to do that last, and it finally made sense to me then

penned means wrote or holding an animal....
Hold is the answer...but just another trick that the ACT folks throw in keeping consistent with the farming theme

so which one was the answer: shut, penned, committed, or fenced?

the answer is "held"

which wasn't one of the answer choices for me. Nice.

I had the same question and the answers were penned, held, fenced, and shut.
I don't even know where you got committed from.

wasnt it asking for which one wouldnt work? so it was committed?

openingdoors, i put down committed. She was holding cucumbers in her fist, so any of the other choices didn't make sense to me

Yeah, I putted "committed" too. Where is everyone getting "held" from?

no she was holding the cucumbers in the pan and letting the water drain out into a different pan. and it asked which one wouldnt work.

or maybe im imagining things

What did you put for the question about time in the Indian music passage? It was like which one happened first... I put the one that started in the 1960s

Also for that passage, was it appreciation?

Oh, and also, was it that Iyan (or whatever his name was) felt he knew a lot about the music but wasn't an expert or thought he still had more to learn or something like that?

and yeah, the question asked which one does NOT make sense. I would hate to believe that one could be "committed" to a cucumber... that's just weird.

Yes to all above, woohaa.
